Ever since I found out that LA had such lavish events like MYTH Masque, Labyrinth of Jareth, and the Jane Austen Evening, it's been my goal to attend to at least one of them. Hopefully one day I'll be able to attend all of them, but for now I am absolutely happy with MYTH. :]
Since MYTH would most likely be my only costume ball this year, I decided to go all out with my outfit. Everything was handmade, sewn and wired by me, with the exception of the moon phase necklace by Artalot on Etsy.
My costume was inspired by the moon, and also very loosely inspired by Luna the cat from Sailor Moon. ♡
To save on costs, I created the majority of my gown with a lightweight, one-way-stretch black tulle. I managed to bargain the price down to about $3.66 yard in the Fabric District and was super proud of myself, haha. I think I ended up using around 13 yards for the entire dress.
The bodysuit (better photo in this post), isn't connected to the dress and was made with an iridescent spandex and elastic black lace.
The appliques on the v-neck and scoop back were scavenged from the Fabric District for around $3. I felt like they instantly brought my dress to a whole new level! There are also miscellaneous jewels and rhinestones from Yume Ninja and Michael's all over the dress~
The back turned out to be one of my favorite parts. In the photo above, you can see what look like bright rhinestones on the scoop. Well..
They're actually LEDs! I figured that if I was going to MYTH Masque, something had to light up, right? ;p They don't show up as well in the photos as they did at MYTH because the lighting was brighter when we shot them, but I think they are really lovely in person. ♥
The part of my costume that I'm most proud of, however, is the headpiece and glowing moon. The photo below of Mandie and I (by Ogeeku) shows off the moon and flower LEDs pretty well!
I should've gotten some close-ups of the crown and moon later that night, but Mike was so tired that I didn't want to keep him awake too long (he was sleeping when I got home and dragged him off the couch, haha)~ Here's a close-up of just the moon, which was created with EL tape:
Now I get to share photos from the actual evening at MYTH! The following photos were taken by Ogeeku (thanks again, Jon!)
Dragon Faerie Kota, Wood Elf Chrissa and I on the grand staircase~
Another shot of Mandie and I. :] I loved how our headpieces ended up looking like opposites (she was representing winter)!
This photo I took of Vanessa was one of the only shots that didn't turn out blurry or oddly lit. I need to learn how to adjust camera settings better! Vanessa's not only stunningly beautiful, she's also super talented - she handmade her gown and headpiece, and also accessorized the mermaids at MYTH with her Creature of Habit flower crowns.
That evening we celebrated our lovely friend Sheyne's birthday because it fell on the same week as MYTH. I am absolutely in love with he mask/headpiece and costume (Sheyne's the one in the center with feathers!)~
And finally, a group photo (you can see Michelle's full golden dragon costume here)! Needless to say I had an amazing evening around amazing people. ♡ ♡ ♡
p.s. I would usually type way more, but I'm currently back in Chicago visiting friends and family and am spending most of my time with them. Hope you enjoyed reading! ♡
