In spite of never showing anything specifically romantic, X-Men Evolution managed to sneak in a same-sex relationship. Here’s how:

In Rogue’s earlier episodes, it is shown that Irene Adler is her primary caregiver, but it’s made very clear that Irene and Mystique are raising her together. It’s just that Mystique has a lot going on, so Irene does the bulk of the child-rearing. Later in the show, Rogue repeatedly refers to Mystique as her mother.

Conclusion: Rogue had two mothers in X-Men Evolution, the show was just subtle enough to get it on the air.
