"They are willing to pay much more than other buyers, because they do not know any better!" Hondo said.
"I don't care," Ezra said. He looked down as his eyes stung.
"You don't care about credits?" Hondo said. He brought a shocked hand to his chest, trying to be funny.
"No," Ezra said stubbornly. His metal fingers nearly broke his own ribs as he tried to hug himself tighter. He would still have his own hand if only the people who lied to him about being a crew and a family had meant it. Ezra risked everything to get Kanan back from Mustafar. Why didn't Kanan do the same for him?
"You see?" the Seventh Sister had said while Ezra stared at the damning holo of his old friends smiling and laughing as they loaded crates of spice. "They're raiding a mining facility on Ryloth. You're not even as important as a shipment of ryll to them."
"Maybe they need to do something there so they have help getting me from here," Ezra said.
His new master didn't bother pointing out how stupid that was. She hopped down from the computer console and wrapped her arms around him in a sickly hug.
"Ezra?"
Hondo's scratchy but kind voice broke through and rescued him from that room and his master's embrace. More of a rescue than his other "friends" ever did. Ezra turned away from Hondo's concerned frown, and drooping chin horns. "I don't want anything to do with them, not even taking their money," Ezra said.
"Can I take their money?" Hondo asked.
Ezra laughed at the way Hondo said that, even though he didn't want to laugh.
