It's a lot of you have asked me over the years where this whole nickname of mine came from. Here goes nothing: Back in the year of 98/99 I was dating this pretty special #Rudegirl. A lot of our weekends were spent at the local all-ages club #RKCNDY skankin' our little butts off to the sounds of as much #Ska and #Oi music as possible. At some point we came across this band called The Skoidats. Time moves on, fast forward to 2001 when I meet this other cool girl who introduces me to DJ Dara and raving my life away. I come back from my first Rave in Arizona and immediately need to figure out how to Rave in Seattle. So what do I find? NWTekno.org (thanks forever @xaotica). At that point I basically just dredged up an old email and used it as my NWTekno.org board name, and thus 'skoiboy' was created. Fast forward to 2002 or 2003 when I meet this hilarious young strapping lad named @robnoble behind the decks at #NafStudios. Rob and I are fairly instantaneously bonded and ended up hanging out quite a bit back then. Let's just be honest, we smoked a lot of weed. Rob couldn't remember my actual name, which also begins with an 'S', so he just started calling me...SKOI. Fast forward to say 2004 when I meet @michael_manahan and a bunch of epic and eclectic super hippies, who at that point had started this cult (🤣) called The Oracle Gatherings. back in these days it was very cool to have a name that wasn't your Christian birth name, so I started introducing myself to everyone as Skoi. everyone seemed to think it was either my name and or natural to who I was, and at that point beyond the drum and bass scene it absolutely stuck. What is kind of amazing about this now that I've written it down for the first time is that the name is the result of my love of music the love for my friends. I wouldn't be the person I am today without all of you and I absolutely love each and everyone of you for everything that you've all said and done over the years. You're incredibly special bunch of human beings, and that is to say it very mildly. With all that said, I highly recommend you check out 'The Times' by #TheSkoidats on #MoonSkaRecords. It's a shining example of the genre! (at Seattle, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/skoisirius/p/BuIdXJeHZq7/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=10f4z7prj0rv0
