#nail clipping

I'm also asking here,

Do any other neurodivergents have issues with clipping their nails? Not the clipping part, but after. Its hard to explain, but the tips of my nails kinda have the same feeling that teeth get when there's sensitivity.

I file my nails down instead of clip them because I hate the way that clipping makes them feel after. I try explaining how it feels, but no one gets it.

Help! May I Disgust People For My Own Personal Convenience?

Dear Miss Manners: Is it rude to clip your nails at your work desk? I work in a cubicle and usually notice that my nails are getting longer while typing on a keyboard. I find it handy to just take care of them then and there.

As long as you find it handy (I see what you did there!) to attend to your personal hygiene amid coworkers who are by definition forced to choose between their livelihoods and witnessing you divest yourself of what are genuinely some of the filthiest parts of any human body, I can see no problem here! If your coworkers don't want to listen to the clickity-snip of your germ talons as the debris flies around the office, they can simply quit their jobs and hope their families don't starve. Your personal convenience takes precedence over other people's desire not to be subjected to your manicurial effluvia while just trying to make it to happy hour without losing their goddamned minds! Trim with shear abandon!

Does anyone know of any good sensory things to counteract the feeling of having just clipped your nails? Just done it after putting it off for longer than I'd like to say, and I am sitting here digging my nails into my poppit thingy, and it helps a bit but ugh it's sensory hell and googling it came up with a bunch of things about children and a conversation between some autistic people that didn't really come up with anything :)

Also been weaning Sigurd off the scratch board when it comes to nails! We have been doing a short scratch board session and then I work on him & the clippers. He’s gotten to a point that if he’s hungry enough and I am patient I am able to clip his nails which feel nice, almost 3 for 3!

...a day on which you manage to trim baby’s nails feels like a blinding success.

So with my mom’s help, I was finally able to clip all of Jude’s nails. I felt so bad though, he was clearly unhappy and scared and he squeaked a few times 😭 but they’re done and they don’t have to be done again until after i come back from college!

quicked Maisie a little the last time I cut her nails bc she flinched and I was too late, and now ofc she avoids me holding her paws and clipping :(

she’s doing okay if I distract and reward a lot, but it’s obvious she’s more stressed than before and we were making good progress. so back to desensitization of paw handling.. 

weirdly tho, she doesn’t mind the nail being clipped as much as her paw being held. once I hold it and she feels okay about it, it goes okay. so I managed to clip all the nails, it just took almost an hour to get through.
