hello buckwheat hopping into your asks to tell you how much i love your inktober art . i love your traditional coloring (the blue shadows, the lighting, the insane backgrounds) and the concepts (the birth of mairon art: i mf gasped) and the anatomy is sooooooo good ...... you are a huge inspo . also can i ask u what materials u use bcs i love the look and texture of the pieces 🤲
hope you are having a great day and thank u for sharing ur art with us 🫶
Hiiiiiiii aaaaa thank you so much 😭😭😭😭 it means a lot because as much as my background is in traditional art, I would rarely create full illustrations this way and tbh I didn't know how to make them look effective. this inktober is me forcing myself to really practise and create finished pieces in their own right within my sketchbook and like. Stop running away from anatomy and perspective lmao. I'm glad to know that ppl enjoy the results!!
I should take some photos of my materials, but essentially the whole turquoise theme begun almost by accident as i decided to finally use That Sample of a Sennelier Ink Brush Pen I've Had For Ages And Never Used Because It Was Green-ish. And it turned out to be the perfect shade for uhm.. constructing a piece in layers of plain colours as if i was doing screen printing or woodblock (I'm not sure if any of my rambling makes sense xhxhxh).
So for the turquoise palette pieces it's a processed of outlining the sketch + filling in all the dark areas with The Brush Pen, the rest being coloured in with alcohol based markers (red going on top of turquoise gives a nice shadow),,, i used gouache/white ink in some pieces for touch ups & Fuckup Coverage,, black lines go last where I think I need them.
I hope this makes any sense and can be helpful in any way, the whole thing is a bit of a string of happy accidents i feel i have zero control over gjcuffufufuf
i constantly think about your curufin's wife oc post and especially the paragraph of 8 y/o celebrimbor's confusion and panic when his parents start arguing after alqualonde and he looks up and his mother is gone , god , it breaks my heart—— i LOVE how you write . TT-TT
ah thank you! god, yeah, baby celebrimbor's been surrounded by adults talking about how they're gonna go to middle-earth and it's gonna be awesome for as long as he can remember, more recently accented with them destroying morgoth and saving the light. the adults came back from alqualondë even more panicky and het up than they were when they left, he can tell something happened while they were getting the boats, but his grandfather said they'd have to struggle through a lot of hard times to get what they wanted, didn't he? also his parents argue a lot, but it's never been this caustic, this desperate. the world's already ending, he's already lost so much, he just does not want to have to think about this - and then she's gone
(he remembers everything his parents said that night, in bright excruciating detail. the older he grows, the more he understands her side of the argument, until finally in nargothrond he realises that he too can't allow this to happen. he tries his best, but his words are no more effective than hers)
i'm glad you like her story, and my writing style apparently! i change tenses like four times in that post, i really should have just picked one, but i'm happy you dug it nonetheless ^ ^ i already said this in the tags, but the original ending for that paragraph was 'and he never saw her again~' it's just she started kicking up a fuss that no, she was totally going to me to find him. i'm glad she did, tyelpë deserved that hug
for the characters meme : i'm interested in your thots on tuor and/or idril 👁
How I feel about this character
I have to be honest, I don't... feel a lot about either 😔 Idril is someone who feels very competent and ready of mind re: the whole secret tunnel thing, like... good choice 10/10, but other than that I don't have many thoughts. and all I think about Tuor is that iirc he almost met Turin and that woulda been bloody hilarious (for me. probably not for him though).
All the people I ship romantically with this character
uhhh with each other I guess? lmao. no wait, voronwe and tuor is also good.
My non-romantic OTP for this character
I think Idril and Turgon are very interesting as a relationship, though I'm also into Idril and Aredhel. I honestly don't recall if there's any textual mentions of other characters who were close to either of them (uh, Tuor and Ulmo maybe? Tuor and his father?), but if so then those. yes I'm sure you can tell I don't spend a lot of time thinking about these characters lol
My unpopular opinion about this character
hhhhh, other than my general "fate-mandated relationships with even more fated children are creepy actually", I don't think I have any particular unpopular feelings. idk if this counts but the whole "she knew Maeglin was bad all along" strikes me as narrator late insertion with a metric ton of hindsight, though also idk if this counts, but being aware that someone fancies you even if they don't say it and not liking the vibes is also a thing that happens. eh idk. I just have thoughts, not sure whether any count as unpopular.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
I'm sorry for subjecting you to this (potentially for the second time) but the Earendil-Jesus vibes should be accompanied by Idril bluetooth-banging with idk, Manwe. potentially via Thorondor. I am sorry for this but also I am not, yes I am aware it is cursed. this needs to be a crack fic but played completely straight.
i just wanted to say that your maitimo/ingwion fic (A Poetry Lesson) is making me loose my mind and i can't stop thinking about them. IT'S SO GOOD. SO GOOD. YOUR MIND IS INCREDIBLE
The comment you left on the fic on Ao3 is making me lose my mind.
Thank you so much. As I said, I absolutely adore your art, and I'm happy I could give back some joy your art gives me.
(This is the fic if anyone is wondering.)
for the writing ask: 33 and 39 👁
from here
33. Give your writing a compliment.
oh let's see, I think I'm good at writing dialogue and good at style-copying in the sense that, if I'm trying to achieve a "Tolkien mood" or any other author-mood, I can dissect their style well enough to be overall mostly successful in reproducing it. I'm also happy with the way I convey and explore characterisation in a show-don't-tell manner. and sometimes I also really like the way I construct sentences, in a purely "word sound and rhythm" sense.
39. Wildest AU scenario you have written?
damn, I actually don't think I've written many wild AUs... outside of non-canon ships, which I guess are some sort of AU in themselves NO WAIT, okay this is mostly crack and just came to me but the Feanor meets Pippin and they invent zoom short fic might count.
