Takuma Nakahira
Nakahira and Soubi- Loveless Theory
So @aoyagicesthime-teamhorridless pointed out that Nakahira and Soubi look a lot alike, and that got me thinking a lot. I completely agree- they do look a lot alike. suspiciously so. They both have long (presumably blonde) hair and they’re both tall. In fact, Nakahira looks quite a bit like 17 year-old Soubi.
(comparison of Nakahira at age unknown and Soubi at age 17.)
As with Seven/Nana, not much is known about Nakahira and also like Seven, I think this is deliberate in order to make way for a big reveal about Nakahira’s true nature/where he comes from. We don’t know his age or even his last name. All we know is that he’s some sort of housekeeper/caretaker of Chiyako-sensei. From his dialogue, we can assume that he wasn’t raised in the Fighter-Sacrifice world, as he seems to know nothing about the Seven Moons. He also doesn’t seem to notice that Seimei and Nisei (and Soubi) are a unit, and instead seems to question everything, leading me to believe that Nakahira has no notion of the Fighter-Sacrifice world. He seems to have grown up without it and around where Chiyako lives. Compared to Soubi, he seems to have more people skills, but his innocence weighs that out.
The two do seem to act similarly, though. They’re both quick to anger and easy to irritate, and they outwardly express their distaste for people they dislike. They were quite clearly raised in different environments, with Nakahira seemingly raised in the outside world and Soubi raised in isolation and trained to be an almost inhumane fighting machine. They had two separate, almost suspiciously opposite upbringings. Given the fact that their environments are exact opposites, their similar behaviors towards each other, and that they look almost exactly the same, I think it’s safe to say that all these connections shouldn’t be overlooked. Nakahira and Soubi are very clearly linked.
But in what way? I don’t think they’re a fighting pair. As I stated in an earlier theory, I do believe Soubi is truly a blank Fighter (though I am willing to entertain the possibility of otherwise~!) and I don’t think Nakahira knows of his true nature, if he has one, which, according to my theory, he does. I think, going along with their extremely similar appearances, they’re brothers.
Soubi states that he has no family. This is incredibly hard to believe, though--even if his mother and father are dead, there would be others: aunts, uncles, grandmothers, grandfathers, cousins... I could go on forever! There has to be someone else, but I also don’t quite think Soubi is lying about this. I think he has other family, he just doesn’t think he does. It’s clear that Ritsu was always extremely manipulative of him (I’ll get to that in a bit; just hear me out until then) and that he told Soubi that he had no other family and Soubi just sort of believed it.
I think Nakahira is either his twin or a younger brother. The possibility of him being his younger brother is a little more possible as, for Soubi to not naturally remember him, he had to have just been born when Soubi was orphaned, meaning that he had no idea that he had a little brother. The other possibility--the possibility that they’re twins--fits a little more with my theory further down, and would have to account for the fact that Soubi doesn’t remember Nakahira. We have a reasonable explanation for that in canon already, as we’ve been shown multiple times that with the aid of spells, a person can be completely removed from someone else’s memory (ie: Natsuo and Youji with Hitomi via Soubi’s memory spell).
Either one is possible. So, why keep them apart?
Simple. It was because of an experiment.
The Seven Moons like experiments. Ritsu does, too. Nagisa ran an experiment on pain and the human body, using regular pairs as her control group and the Zeroes as her experimental group. Ritsu is running a similar experiment on the effects of pain on a person, and he ran it by placing his subject (Soubi) is an environment that required high tolerance and was incredibly harsh. But, he had no control group. Well, what better of a control group than to place someone very genetically similar (if not genetically identical) to him in a normal environment--one that was opposite Soubi’s? That would make for the best experiment, because it would control for everything and produce extremely viable results.
Nakahira and Soubi are a lot like each other, both in terms of looks and behavior, and not much (not even his surname!) is known about Nakahira. I believe these two could be long-lost siblings separated for the purpose of running a prolonged experiment. Loveless does, after all, have a theme of humaneness of environments involved with it, so what better a way to show it then placing Soubi in a terrible, inhumane one, and Nakahira in a much better, humane one?
What do you guys think?
