Old NakedBoB.com animated intro now on YouTube
Finally got around to getting the old Adobe Flash intro uploaded to YouTube. Had to rip out some crufty ActionScript before it would go. YouTube also does some nastiness with the scaling, so hope most of youse watch it on your mobile device instead of your web browser. Or at least watch it in a tiny browser window. Yup.

Keeping tabs on NakedBoB's E3 2010 Adventures (Yup)
Hey kids! On my way to the E3s and since I know I'm old and don't have the stamina of DTJAAAAM to post E3 photo blogs every night, here's a couple of ways to see what I'm seein'/doin' at E3:
NakedBoB's Twitter and Facebook I'll be tweeting my most every move (except for potty breaks, unless you want those, too) on Twitter which also posts to my Facebook wall if you're against the twitters. You can follow me on those services or check out my latest posts below (click on them to go to my Twitter page or to see photos.)

Sorry for the wonkyness of these, as 1UP blocked many of the Flash apps that I've used in previous convention blogs for security reasons. Depending on the internets at the convention center, I may also upload photos to my Picasa gallery here: NakedBoB's Picasa Gallery
I'll try and do an overall E3 blog at the end of the week, but I ain't promising nothin'. Wish me luck on scoring a free Xbox 360 Slim by badgering Microsoft reps until they give in (or call security...)

Hey NBob, I was wondering if you could do me a favor. When playing the 3DS, close your left eye and see if you can still see the 3D effects. Since I'm blind in my left eye, I don't think I'll be able to see them.
And Namco has two Pac-Games and Nintendo has a new Kirby game. Play those for me. :) --Cary

Reflections of the way E3 used to be (Thoughts on E3 2010)
Spotted at E3!!!
Well...I'm back from E3 and guess youse guys wanna know what I thought of it...or maybe ya don't but you're bored and hanging out on my 1up page anyways. Anyhoo, here' ya go:
Back to the old E3? E3 still isn't as flashy as it was during the early 2000s, but getting there. Nowhere near as crowded. Kinda prefer the current E3 over the old one. This one is definitely waaayyy better than the 2007 & 2008 media only E3s. Those blew big time. There seemed to be a lot more lines this year than last. Funny thing was some of the lines were for shitty games, but you got a free t-shirt or some other swag after the demo. People are so easily bought. The line for Mortal Kombat was longer than the Nintendo 3DS one on Thursday and you didn't even get to play MK! Some of the Mortal Kombat shirts are going for $100 on eBay, so maybe I screwed up by skipping that one... Things/Games I hated at E3
Kinect/Move. The only game I want for these gizmos is Time Crisis(PS3/Move). Why does every Time Crisis come with a huge hardware investment?!! All of the games shown at E3 for the motion controllers were Wiicycled garbage (see what I did there?!) While these may sell well initially, people are gonna get bored with them and never use 'em again. The ones that want to play these type of games already got a Wii and'll probably just use that instead.
Music/Dance/Rhythm games. There were a shitload of these at E3, mostly due to the Kinect/Move/Wii. Be prepared to see most of these titles in clearance bins by this time next year.
Lakers' fans riots. More on that later.
Disappointments. The Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 controls seemed off and I don't think it was due to the jumping. The level design seemed rather iffy, too. I hope they fix this title before release and maybe I was just playing a very early version. Bomberman Battlefest had very little more thingies than Bomberman Live. They even look identical. Is it really that hard to just copy Saturn Bomberman, Hudson? Heck, just emulate that and add online and you'd be good to go. Sonic 4's levels felt like they went on too long and was getting bored too quickly. Epic Mickey seems to becoming a standard platformer. Had high hopes for that one. Splatterhouse is just your generic, run of the mill 3D beat 'em up game. DTJAAAAM mentioned that it felt like X-MenOrigins:Wolverine to him, if ya want an idea on the gameplay. I think even fans of the old games will wanna pass this one up.
3D. I just don't see me playing my games in 3D if I can help it. The 3D effect is too distracting. I don't believe that most people are going to invest in new TVs just to play EyePet. Probably even turn off the 3D effect on my 3DS when/if I get it.A good story/game will keep me immersed more than any 3D effect.
Things I loved about E3
Nintendo 3DS, and that's mostly just for Star Fox 64. If you've been following my blogs all these years, you'd know that I've been wanting a portable Star Fox since the GBA days. Star Fox Command didn't cut it though. Some of the other games look great, too. Wasn't really all that excited for the 3DS until I played it late Thursday. Price will be the only thing that may kill this system. Kinda disappointed that there wasn't a new 3D WarioWare.
Pac-Man Battle Royale cocktail cabinet (Arcade). I'm not the greatest Pac-Man player but they had the new arcade game at E3 and I kicked so much ass!!! They need to port this to XBLA soon. For those not in the know, Pac-Man Battle Royale is a four player Pac-Man arcade game where you take out other players by eating them or bumping them into ghosts. Ton of fun! I know that I'll probably never own this (unless they port it to the consoles) but it needed a mention here. Gaian has a couple of photos on his blog.
Game surprises. The co-op in Ghost Recon Future Soldier looks neato. Space Invaders Infinity Gene XBLA is mostly an iPhone port but still a must buy. Kirby's Epic Yarn is friggin' sweetness and I dunno why Nintendo ain't pushing this more. Didn't get to play it, but I'll be getting Portal 2 on day one. Scott Pilgrim is a huge ripoff of River City Ransom, but in a good way. DeathSpank's dialog totally feels like the Monkey Island games and that alone makes it a must buy for me. Marvel vs Capcom 3 looks great (plays more like Tatsunoko vs Capcom than SFIV, though.) Hard Corps Uprising looks promising. Plays kinda like a cross between Metal Slug and Contra. Think I wanted it to be more hectic/Contra 3. The developer said that many were complaining that the first mid-boss was too hard. I told him those guys were just pussy journalists and don't change a thing. Lost in Shadow and Limbo both creeped me out way more than Splatterhouse.
More of the same but will buy anyways Gears of War 3, Dead Rising 2, new Xbox 360, Mortal Kombat, maybe Bulletstorm, Castlevania:Harmony of Despair DS to XBLA port (forgot to try out the new 3D game.), maybe Tron.
Video Games Live I've never been before but Gaian talked me into attending the Video Games Live concert after E3. Was always under the impression that they just played mostly RPG scores, but I was definitely wrong. Once I heard them do Ghost N Goblins I was sold. Don't even think they played an RPG score until after the second half. This concert is a must for video game fans both old and new. If ya can't attend a concert near you, they're going to be airing a show on PBS on July 31st. Check it out. While we were enjoying the concert, the Lakers game ended and people were tearing up the streets right outside. Being that I lived in Chicago during Bulls back to back to back championships, I consider myself an expert in riot preparedness. Luckily for us things seemed to have settled down by the time Gaian was done getting his autographs from the composers that showed up for VGL. We did have to help some dudes flip a car and torch a McDonalds, though. You gotta blend in to survive!

Always have a blast meeting youse guys at these events, even if it's just for a few minutes. Finally got to meet MattClark in person and shook hands with Dr Mayhem after two days of twitter tag. This is also my second E3 in a row where I hung out with DTJAAAAM and Gaian for most of my stay. Also these guys have waayyy better E3 blogs than I do. Gaian's blogs E3 2010 Day 1 E3 2010 Day 2 - There's some scary photos of me here. Especially the one with me devouring some fried chicken. Maybe me playing with the PS Move is scarier. Scarier than Splatterhouse that's for sure! E3 2010 Day 3?
MattClark wrote a bunch of articles for MTV while at E3. See kids, if ya blog on here long enough you can score some jobs in the industry!
For those who may have missed my previous E3 2010 blog here's some links to my live tweets and photo album: http://twitter.com/#search?q=nakedbob%23e3 http://picasaweb.google.com/nakedbob.morgan/E32010# This wasn't done by a 1upper but found it interesting and in a lot of ways feel the same as this guy: http://www.pcworld.com/article/199322/fear_and_loathing_at_e3_microsoft_nintendo_sony.html Gettin' Old I'm sure I forgot to mention some awesome game or one that really disgusted me. ...was that the dance/music/rhythm games were friggin' everywhere at E3! Are people really buying these things at this level? Ugh! If anything was gonna 'cause another video game bust it'd be these motion control games. Far worse than E.T. for the Atari 2600!!!

Why For You No Love Bannen?
Posted: Jun 22, 2010 12:00AM PST by MaximumBannen
Don't act like you can't help a guy into E3... *sadness*
I have the same impressions on Kinect and Move. I can already picture both devices sitting next to my Rock Band stuff, my PS2 HDD, and the countless other big investment that ultimately didn't pay off. That and, like you mentioned, all of the stuff for the Kinect in particular has a very been-there-done-that-on-the-Wii feel.
When it comes to the 3DS, Starfox was the first game I read about that made me sit up and then absorb all the rest. I can't wait to get my hands on one.

Posted: Jun 22, 2010 12:00AM PST by Naked BoB
The average person only buys a new TV every 5 to 10 years. Do game/movie companies really believe that we're gonna give up our new-ish HDTVs for ones that just add 3D capabilities? Ain't gonna happen!

great E3 blog Bob
Posted: Jun 22, 2010 12:00AM PST by cusser
i do like your perspective of games and have similar opinions to what was on offer, without even attending. your thoughts on Hard corps made me laugh...pussy journalists lol.
Pacman Battle Royal looks amazing. lovely old school cabinet. my grandparents used to run a working mens club. they had a galaxian cocktail cabinet for a little while.i would often lose out on great scores because my father would pop his pint on top of the screen.
I am in no way excited about sony and microsofts motion peripherals. it's been done and there isn't any room for more. this sort of thing appeals to a family. trouble is they have already bought a Wii.
both castlevania games look sweet. i'm interested in force unleashed 2 as the story was fantastic first time around. Love the 3DS and can't wait to finally upgrade my DSlite. Lost in shadow looks interesting. Marvel vs capcom is a must have.
lots to look forward to, even if our Government has just anounced a rise in VAT
Glad you had fun Bob. Hope the family is well?

Need more Pac-Man...
Posted: Jun 22, 2010 12:00AM PST by Naked BoB
Totally jonesing to play more Pac-Man Battle Royale. Great update for a classic game! Force Unleashed 2 was very popular at the show. They had a big ol' movie screen looping the trailer right at the E3 entrance.
Seems weird that developers would take any advice from games journalists. Sure they play a lot of games, but 75% don't play games like we play games. Stuff like Hard Corps 2 belongs to such a niche crowd, one that likes the difficulty ramped up a bit.

Posted: Jun 22, 2010 12:00AM PST by FalconX
The fitness game for my "Mrs." guaranteed a place for the Kinect in our living room, however, I will be getting Child of Eden for it because I loved Rez.
That Pac-Man game looks amazing!! I like that they re-use the look-and-feel of Championship Edition, I'm addicted to that game, play it on both XBLA and iPhone.
I've never been to a proper "E3" however I did go to its predecessor, when games were shown at Winter and Summer CES. Will you be at PAX Prime? My travel is booked, hope to see you there!

Child of Eden
Posted: Jun 22, 2010 12:00AM PST by Naked BoB
Child of Eden looked neato at the keynote, but I didn't see it on the show floor and don't think it was one of the games that Microsoft was demoing in their Kinect booth. I do love all of Tetsuya Mizuguchi's games (well...except for 99 Nights that is.) Just don't think that one game is gonna warrant a $150 add-on purchase.
Working on going to PAX, but doubtful. Crossing my fingers!

Being a journalist at E3 can be tough, especially when you don't have free reign to cover what ya want. Plus side is you get to talk to developers and see things the rest of us don't. Minus side is that you usually don't have time to goof around on the show floors.
Hope ya can get in to E3 next year!

I MUST PLAY PAC-MAN BATTLE ROYALE!!! NAMCO DIDN'T EVEN SEND ME A PRESS RELEASE ABOUT THIS!!! I MUST KNOW MORE ABOUT IT!!! DETAILS, EVERYTHING!!!
