Kicking off like atmospheric The xx gone cinematic R&B before it goes full blown dark throbbing and creamy smoldering pop, Cold Blood is another hauntingly stunning track from Nambyar. The Dutch alt R&B artist mesmerizes with his velvety smooth vocals and dusky tense production on the torrid aching track. Underneath its torrid tide is much tempestuous angst and restless, feverish desire. Though Cold Blood is about someone with an icy demeanor and a stony heart, the song itself is a stormy and impassioned heater, like RKCB and Opia with a pinch of The Weeknd’s intensely shadowy atmosphere. I must say, I do tend to rely on music to “show me what love is” sometimes, since it can evoke such vivid emotions and set the heart on fire. Dutch alt R&B artist Nambyar returns to “Show Me What Love Is” in his own smooth glistering fashion on his latest single after having wooed us plenty with his past releases. He once again douses us with warm drapes of billowing synths and high flying falsettos on the single, but he also consumes us with a fiery intensity with Show Me What Love Is’ trap heavy, bass woozy, feverishly agitated moments. Though I could learn little about Nambyar, I’m eternally grateful to have stumbled upon what seems to be his debut single. Warm In The Winter not only showcases the Dutch artist’s buttery smooth falsettos, but it also engulfs us with rich florid, cathartic swelling production. Warm In The Winter is an alt R&B and downtempo electronic combination suffused with aching vocals reminiscent of Kevin Garrett or James Vincent McMorrow, but paired with the haunting ornate constitution of Låpsley and SOHN. If anyone’s able to keep us warm during these stormy winter days, it’s Nambyar.
