Circles 'round the moon Is this why city lights feel so awful? It should be unlawful To live where you can't see the stars Hundreds of miles away we draw the Same lines to conclusions There's no need for confusion If we all throw in the towel But down the street from here There's a forest and a lake I go there when my brain's too full To try to break down and un-complicate To interpret the things We said in letters and phone calls Not enough for us to tell How was your day? Circles 'round the block Is this how all my time gets wasted? I don't think so But we tasted the night air And now we just want more A thousand postcards later We seem older but that's normal Our cars broke down And it's just too cold To hitchhike to your door But, down the street from here, there's a forest and a lake I go there when my brain's too full to try to break down and un-complicate To interpret the things we said In letters and phone calls Not enough for us to tell How was your day? Not enough for us to tell How was your day? “Tambourine - N: Thyme” is the second track of Nana Grizol’s debut album “Love It, Love It” which emerged way back in 2008 off “Orange Twins Records”. The whole album draws from a wide range of musical pallets, bringing a mixture of folk/emo/psych-pop elements which culminate in a warm and beautiful record.
“Tambourine - N: Thyme” is a slower track which features a steady, cymbal-crashing beat and a somber harmony captured by bright trumpets and clanging guitars. Frontman, Theo Hilton, takes a register reminiscent of the singing on Bright Eye’s release ‘Fever and Mirrors’ (2000) with a similar lyrical prose. Still, Hilton effectively captures the listener with evocative imagery and honest self-reflection.
“ Tell me not to fall in love with you And frankly my friend I think that's the sweetest thing you do”
Hilton manages a story inexplicably - yet still seeming personal. Coupled with collapsing pianos that descend in the background and a set of trumpets that push the song forwards against it’s restrained pace, Nana Grizol have a really quaint and heart-felt track (in a ‘home-made’ gift kind of way) which can easily be enjoyed.
