So I catched up with Best Medicine and I have few thoughts:

Often while watching Doc Martin, I was on Martin's side, because many of his actions were perfectily justifiable. He was the doctor and often when he was telling people to not do something or close certain businesses, it was the matter of health and safety. I could also understand why certain people were pissed about it or didn't want to do what he was telling them, nevertheless, I thought that they shouldn't take him for granted since he was the only doctor in the whole Portwenn.

But I feel even stronger about Martin Best doing his duties, because I guess, he's treated even harsher than his UK counterpart? I mean, in the first episode he gets assaulted by a woman he caught cheating on her husband. In his place, I would have been fed up with this town too. And when he says that something should be shut down or cancelled due to possibility of food poisoning, US version of Port Wenn citizen immediately goes into public shaming mode, showing how much disdain they have for their only doctor spoiling their fun. So far they come off to me as an unlikable bunch... with few exceptions.

I really like what they did with Elaine. UK!Elaine was useless, rude and vain, however, they were trying to do something interesting with her in the last episode when her father was getting married (in fact, it was the only good idea for this character). Meanwhile with US!Elaine, I feel like they were borrowing some characterstics of UK!Elaine, while also adding some competence of Pauline Lamb. This Elaine is still a bit useless in every day operations of the clinic, but often shows some deeper character and can help with drawing the blood. And her angst over her mother's wedding was done even better than in UK version.

Frankly, right now I'm wating for the episode when Martin's parents show up. I want to see if they will be as dickish as in UK version.

chattt i just watched the pilot for best medicine on hulu bc i saw an ad for it and honestly i’m intrigued 🧍‍♀️

love me a good med show and this one isn’t set in a hospital and isn’t fast-paced. it’s about a heart surgeon from boston who decides to be a small-town doctor in a little place called port wenn in maine. coastal small-town feels and patients coming to dr. best when they need a doctor. only the pilot is out rn but we’ll see how the rest goes!
