Nanantius is an Opposite Bird known from the Toolebuc Formation in Australia, making it a rare Opposite Bird from Australia. It lived about 100 million years ago, in the Albian age of the Early Cretaceous, and is known from limited remains of the leg. It may not actually be an Opposite Bird after all, however, given that the traits of its bones are also found in the “True Birds,” Euornithes, such as Apsaravis. It was probably about the size of a blackbird, and it may have fed on marine life, though it’s difficult to confirm that without further remains. It did live alongside the Eromanga Sea and another bone, that may be referable to Nanantius, has been found inside of an ichthyosaur. Hopefully with more remains more can be confirmed about this dinosaur.
