Nanao doesn’t say a word for now, instead keeps her hand steadily on Rangiku’s shoulder. She knows it’s been rough. The fact this one’s stayed still while the world moves on around her is obvious to Nanao even if it isn’t to her. It’s not just Rangiku either, it’s everyone who was there in one way or another. Nanao moves on without the memories of the war, while everyone lags behind, picking over old wounds. How can she understand, when she was left behind. It’s a heavy feeling, wanting to help, but having no idea how to start.
She gets a smile for her efforts, and it feels like a start. Even so, the silence starts to linger and prompts Nanao to try and find something to say. It’s tempting to offer platitudes, although she’s smart enough to know that won’t be enough. How can she promise everything will be okay, when so much more is needed.
“I’m here” she tries, letting out a sigh as she pauses, it feels so generic so insufficient “if you feel ready to talk”
