I don't know what level of drawing skills you have, but if you're considering a lower-end Wacom, you might take a look at the Monoprice tablets. Mo had a reblog ages ago about it, and I ended up getting one as a gift last year, and it's rather nice.

(cont) The usable area is roughly letter-sized paper, which is considerably more area than a comparable Wacom. Of course, if you're looking at the higher end professional Wacoms, go with that, but if not, maybe check out the Monoprice.
