December 1st 1985- Sunday 8:15am
A lazy groan escaped Steve's tired mouth as he reached for his alarm clock. He licked his lips and lazily wiped the sweat from his forehead up into his hairline.
His back stuck to the bed in a warm pool of sweat. He had went to bed in a panic the night before. Hoping no one knew what he had gotten himself into.
Eddie had insisted on driving him home, even though Steve believed he was sober enough to get back in one piece. Now he was faced with a slight challenge. Getting his car back. He didn't have Eddie's number, and couldn't risk asking anyone for it. The only person he could depend on for help was Robin or... worst case scenario, Nancy.
He pleaded with the universe to let Robin pick up the phone at this early hour. He needed to get the beamer back while his parents were still at church. His father would flip if he found out that Steve had left his car in a bar parking lot.
He picked up his bedside phone and started dialing.
Ring ring, ring ring, ring ring
No answer from Robin. No time to leave a voicemail either, he was in too much of a rush. So, he called the Wheeler house.
"Hello?" Steve's brain quickly ruled out every suspect. Not Nancy. Not an adult. Not a kid. Mike...
Steve hesitated. His voice was still raspy from his restless slumber. "Mike?"
"Why are you up so early?" Mike scoffed.
The trademarked Steve Sass kicked in. "Uh- Why are you up so early? Actually! Don't answer that. No time. Is Nancy there? I need to talk to her."
Steve cleared his throat.
"Nancy! Steve is on the phone! It sounds... Important? I don't know." Muffled arguments took place in the background...
Finally, Nancy picked up the phone. "What!"
"Geez, someone's not a morning person. I need a favor." He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and tried to focus.
"Right now? Steve, I'm trying to get breakfast together."
He practically begged, hoping she could hear his puppy dog eyes through the phone. "Please, please, please! I really need help or i'm in big trouble."
She sighed and took a moment to respond. "...What is it?"
"I left my car at the Hawkins Pub last night."
"Let me guess, something, something, or your dad is going to kill you."
"Yes. Exactly. I'm glad you understand, can you be here in 10 minutes?"
"Steve! Manners might help you get somewhere in life-"
"I said please! And when you're here I'll say thank you!"
"Fine! 15 minutes. I have to help Holly with something first..."
Steve watched from the front porch as Nancy's car glided up the driveway.
He wondered how he was supposed to explain himself. Ultimately, he didn't have to. But, he knew that Nancy could read his every expression.
His feet shuffled shamefully towards the car. He opened the door and swung himself inside.
His heart was like a drum against his ribs. He stuck a finger in his mouth and started biting at the nail. Staring forward, but not seeing. Only thinking in anxious spirals.
Nancy took a breath and started reversing the car. "You should write a guide book titled How To Decode Steve Harrington."
"You don't need that book, Nance."
"I don't know, I might pull it out for the first time today..."
His teeth were too busy to respond. Pulling the dead skin from his nail beds. Memories of the previous night replayed in his head.
It was unlike anything he had ever experienced. Slow kissing in the back of a rockstar's van. Thick curly hair tangled between his fingers. The sharp edges of Eddie's jaw illuminated in the dark. Lips that hypnotized his mouth with movement. Vodka scented breath sucking on his chest. Kisses and nibbles in between hickeys. Muscular biceps that wrapped tight around Steve's back. A comfort he was accustomed to giving.
It felt relieving to be pampered in such a delicate way. He could let down his guard and submit to Eddie's touch as his fingers traced up and down Steve's neck. His palm landing against his cheek. Thumbing his lips.
He remembered the sensation of his fingertips trailing down Eddie's chest and tugging at his belt. How he begged to "just feel it in his hands.."
He thought about his own slimy spit-soaked hand rubbing the veins along Eddie's dick. How his hips bucked into Steve's touch. His thumb traveling into Steve's mouth, temporarily curing his oral fixation.
In his countless years of ripping hangnails from his skin and chewing on hoodie strings, nothing seemed to satisfy his anxious ticks. Only now, had he found relief. A finger gliding down his tongue. A hunger from within had him salivating onto Eddie's wrist.
Eddie's other arm held Steve's back, shielding him from the cold floor. His mouth pressed firm kisses into Steve's hairline. Taking heavy breaths against wet skin. Savoring the taste and smell of hairspray, cologne, and adrenaline.
Steve's brows furrowed as his eyes widened, gazing up at Eddie with the helpless expression of a newly domesticated animal. He was focusing on Eddie's lips. The way each time Steve stroked, he bit them hard enough to crack.
"Steve!" Nancy's voice clicked him back into reality.
"Oh! Thanks." He trailed off again.
"Ok, my annoyance has officially turned to worry. What are you hiding?"
"I'm not hiding anything!" He huffed, then continued. "I didn't sleep good."
Nancy started laughing. "You can tell me if you were with a girl, Steve. We've been broken up for years now. Who am I gonna tell? Jonathan?"
"Well I hope you don't talk about me to Jonathan, because he's a loser, but if you do then you can tell him that Steve doesn't sleep well and Steve has nightmares."
"Talking about yourself in third person doesn't-"
"No! Don't even tell him about the nightmares. That's between you and me."
She sighed. Nothing ever stayed between her and Steve. Since he had found a new best friend in Robin, Nancy became the last person he would share secrets with. "Sure..."
He observed Nancy with her wrist bent over the wheel. Her curls rolling against the breeze from the cracked window. Her features were sharp. She was always quick with her words. Ready to jump into an argument at a moments notice. Always the first to call him out. Maybe he did have a type. What if last night wasn't just an impulsive experiment, but something indulgent. He was confused by his own thoughts. Was Eddie becoming just as enticing as a previous love, Nancy? Possibly more.
