REMEMBER, I LOVED YOU

An interpretation of how Clint Barton grew up into the man he is - an insight into his past, his friends and foes, but most of all, his family. How did a boy from Waverly, Iowa, end up an assassin and a spy for SHIELD? Remember, I Loved You looks into how his parents, his brother and his mentors in the circus made him into the man he is today. 

NB: I know this fic is soon going to be 4 years old, but it was my first long fic and my first NaNoWriMo win, and I couldn’t resist making the same title cards as I’ve done before for my other long fics <3  The fic does mention alcohol, domestic abuse and all sorts of other bad stuff that’s happened to the poor boy over the years, so tread carefully!

Hi. I just finished reading "Remember, I loved you", and I wanted to let you know that a) the fic is amazing, b) if you ever want to write add-ons scenes or anything like that, PLEASE DO IT, and c) I honestly can't remember a fic that handled the Barton boys' childhood like yours did. Thank you.

No, that ending I am crying, why must Barton brothers hurt us this way? Fantastic story though, really well written.

Because they're Bartons and their entire life rhymes with pain and angst (except when it's not and then, that's the moment where their lives get brilliant).

And thank you so much! It means so much to know that you enjoyed it, I always have this small voice in the back of my head telling me that my story won't be well written enough because I lack so much vocabulary and storytelling capacities because English isn't my first language, but then you people go ahead and tell me it's really well written and I just want to smack that voice in my head with a hammer to get it to shut up.

Chapter Summary: BARNEY BARTON POV ▬ When Barney finally gets enough of the circus life and decides he wants to leave, the choice of leaving Clint behind dawns upon him: would he leave his brother behind to finally fly on his own? Or would he stay behind and wait for his brother to join him and move on?

So technically this is the last chapter. There will be another one, which is an epilogue of sorts and which is going to be from Clint's POV (as promised a couple of weeks ago), but to all purposes, this is the end of the fic. (Though the pain is still not quite finished, because there will be an epilogue up soon). Let me know how you liked - or disliked - this chapter. The ending of this chapter breaks my heart everytime I think back to the fact that it's CANON and yeah. Just. The Barton brothers make me so sad.
