oh my goodness gracious, anka!! this is one of the sweetest and kindest messages i’ve ever gotten and i’m so grateful!! a little bit of unexpected kindness really goes a long way sometimes and i’m so thankful that you took some time out of your busy day to send this!! i really do try to exude positive energy all the time and surround myself with positive thoughts bcs it’s so important like, yes, there may always be some negativity that comes and goes as those are unavoidable in this world, but to have that positive mentality that you can always go back to is so crucial and i’m really trying to live by that everyday. also yes, i’m a very passionate person and i have so many interests and especially these days when i have a lot of time to myself to reflect and discover a lot of things!! i have this mindset of, when i find things that truly fills my heart with such joy, i always dive into it and pursue it wholeheartedly bcs those are the things that are gonna matter the most in the end and the things that you can always turn to when you’re not having such a good day or life is throwing curveballs at you!! also, oh my gosh, to hear that you aspire to be like me honestly makes me feel so grateful and happy like wow, thank you so much. i’m so happy to hear that i can be a role model and source of inspiration for someone!! and i absolutely absolutely know that you’re going to achieve all of your goals one day. it’s already written in your destiny. plus, you just exude such wonderful energy like even just from this message?? that’s so amazing!! also i’m screaming omg, the fact that i inspired you to get back to learning italian makes me super happy aaaaah, i’m so glad to hear that!! italian is such a beautiful language and i’m always so happy when i meet another fellow learner. we’re in this wonderful journey together now!! good luck, lovely!! 🤍✨

Hahah, my phone doesn't allow me ř or ě sometimes either, haha! And for some reason it really struggles with ý!  But yeah, it means Do not postpone (till tomorrow) what you can today/tonight! Woo! :D Send me a sentence or phrase in any language and I’ll have a guess!

Lab diaries | 4.12.21

I love when my work and life color coordinate! Lately lab time has been overtaken by western blots, since I've been testing various siRNAs for knockdown. So far the results have been a bit disappointing but I've been getting lots of practice, trying to stay positive. Anyone else stuck in "wet lab optimization" mode?

Keeping track of experiments can be time consuming but I think I've finally got my system! We'll see how long it lasts....

Prepping for the next sequencing run! I have two students shadowing me while I teach them how to pool samples for next gen sequencing, it's a great way for me to see where my lab notes aren't clear enough. Also, I love when fruit prices drop it means summer is near, even if it doesn't feel like it 🌫️🌧️

hi Rylie! can you believe a whole week of november is already gone?? i hope it was kind to you 💕 so i guess the word got out that i'm learning italian again and the universe is throwing italian things at me 🥰 😄 i was watching a movie my parents picked and it was set in Italy! a few days later I was changing channels on tv and suddenly there was a culinary show also set in Italy. and just today i picked a random book to read next and the main character is italian and one of the locations is florence? this is not a coincidence

omg, i was typing my previous ask while watching a movie. its plot started in Sweden and as i hit ask it moved to Italy!! what is this witchcraft?? and why it didn't happen last time i started with italian? that would have motivated me to continue. honestly, now i feel like the universe wants me to learn the language 💙

omg anka honestly i’m screaming bcs this is exactly what happened to me back in like august when i became fascinated with italian and thought that hmm, maybe i should learn italian since i wanted to learn a language in my gap year. and now look where i am. absolutely whipped™ for everything italian. tbh, when i tell you that paulo coelho was right in the alchemist when he said that, when you want something, the universe conspires to help you achieve it, he ain’t lying. i think even while reading that book there was a mention of italy somewhere haha. it’s so weird honestly i feel you. it’s everywhere. è ovunque. the amount of italy things that i’ve stumbled across in so many random places whether it be in my own kitchen (i had No Idea that my family had so many italian food like we even have italian herbs?? and my siblings has this kitchen set and one of the containers is called italian chicken?? what??), in books that i read, here on tumblr... è pazzesco. and it happens when you least expect it too. 

anka, my dear, this is truly a sign from the universe and it definitely, definitely wants you to learn it and commit yourself to it!! you cannot ignore the calls of the universe. it is written. also that book you’re talking about just reminded me of this young adult literature book that i read a few years ago (and remains one of my fave books, you gotta love them girl studies abroad and falls in love with cute foreign guy books tbh) called love and gelato!! i don’t know if you’ve ever heard of it, but it’s literally so cute and precious. it’s set in florence and this book was, like, my first exposure to italy and italian culture. it’s so crazy to think back to it now!! i might actually reread it soon for a newer perspective. the author also has one for ireland and she also has a newer one set in greece and i’m so excited!! this genre just melts my heart! ✨
