I've decided to do NanoWriMo for the very first time. I thought about it, like a million years ago, but have never attempted it.
This year, I looked at the rules to see if you could continue an ongoing WIP, and that seems to be fair game now, so I'm gonna use this time to (try) and finish the Steddie fic I'm working on. I'll be NaNo Rebel. I don't mind.
I don't actually know if it will require 50,000 more words. But at least working towards fleshing it all out, and maybe even finishing it, will be the goal for the month.
I made myself a spreadsheet. It's pretty basic, but I like data. (I once took up running just because I liked the data of it. Don't ask, lol.)
If anyone else wants it to use it, it's located here, and it is for Google Sheets. It is only for a goal of 50,000 words. Since I made it for me, I didn't think to build it around changing to a different goal. Sorry!
It was designed for me to just glance at the current Word Count in my Google doc at the end of the day, and plug that into the C Column. If you use multiple docs, or something else, this might not work for you as easily.
You'll need to go to File>Make a Copy before you'll be able to edit it. You'll only need to enter numbers in C Column every day. Everything else will populate. And if you're going rogue like me, just put your current starting word count as of Nov 1st in B2 instead of 0, and everything else will shift to get you to 50,000 new words at the end of the month. (Doing that will make it look to be in the negative until you enter the first day's end word count in C2.)
Happy writing! ❤️
(PS: If anything is wonky, just holler. I've tested it, but not used it for a full month, so I could have totally missed something.)
For the month of October, everything on my shop is 25% off!
If you've been looking for a writing template, now's the time to get one. Happy prepping for nano!

What should I be doing?
Plotting my story.
What am I doing?
Laying in bed, looking at memes and fanfiction.
Instead of reblogging that post again I’m gonna put this in the air (and for organization reasons) I am putting together a “accountability” writing group for nano. I’ll host it on discord, it’ll be low commitment because I work full time but I want it to be a space for encouragement, check-ins, writing sprints, either weekly or biweekly “workshops” depending on how the schedule works out (and those will mostly be either glorified brainstorming sessions or “hey this is what’s currently happening/this is where I’m stuck”. If any of this sounds interesting to you let me know! I’m already gathering a list for my last post
Human when we’re alone
The chain around his wrist glittered like the stars they’d seen the night before as he sat quietly next to a crying Vegas. It seemed like the right thing to do at the time. Though there was a piece of him, the smart part. The animal piece of his brain primed for self preservation that knew this was in the opposite of his best interest. But the thing about Pete, that he had long since accepted with no shame. His heart was softer than his will to live. It always has been.
It had landed him here in the dragon’s den when he volunteered for a suicide mission in order to save Porsche, the idiot that had run off with Vegas. Though the idiot sounded a little judgmental to his own ears as he laid in Vegas’ arms, the other man fell asleep behind him.
Pete had never been afraid of the dark. There were far more scary things in his house to fear. So he didn’t fear the monster that Vegas clearly held in front of his real face. It was easier when Vegas was a monster. Monsters could be fought, or they would consume you. Black and White. Easy to understand. Instead here he was with a chain around his wrist and another around his heart.
What the fuck Pete.
This is worse than dying .
Pete enjoyed having a purpose, he had no problem giving of himself in the service of others. But this felt like nothing he’d felt before. This was more than offering a helping hand or taking a bullet.
There was only one reason he had kept going all these years. Pete wanted to live. He wanted to live and smile and eat good food in spite of the man who tried to take everything that made Pete him and mold him into what he always wanted him to be. He would never be molded again. He would never be captured again. And yet here he was, the chain around his wrist seemed colder than it had moments ago. The one he felt around his heart seemed to squeeze in and as if on cue Vegas’ arms tightened around him in turn.
Would Vegas even know what to do with his heart now that he’d captured it ? Would Pete be another in the series of pets that died under their Master’s lack of care ?
No. That wasn’t fair. Vegas cared a lot for his Pets. He’s decided it was worth dying to get his Hedgehog a vet. He had a heart. But how would he know how to even use it? Why was Pete comparing himself to a Pet? Why did he..why was he….Why ……
….why didn’t he run?
Why doesn’t he regret it ?
The questions ran through Pete’s mind all night as he lay there. But the most important question kept him awake.
What would Vegas do when he awoke and realized Pete was no savior?
Pete knew from experience there was no one that could erase the fingerprints of self hatred that seeped into your very bones with the abuse that Vegas had come to know as natural and normal. He was nothing. Certainly no one's salvation. He was only human and he wondered what would happen when Vegas saw him in the sunlight for what he was.
No one.
