my bird doesnt seem to nap during the day. sometimes he will relax a lot, tuck his foot in, and start nodding off but he doesn't actually sleep. he just gets really sleepy. is this normal? i never see him tucking his head in to sleep during the day.
Completely normal, daytime is the time where the predators are out and about so fully putting themselves to sleep would be a very dangerous thing to do! Generally unless they’ve got a really secure flock (or a trusted family member to nap on/ near) they’ll just close their eyes, foot tucked, head out, but still be hyperaware of the environment. If the bird is new to the home or just isn’t quite at that level of trust yet they will commonly just nap with their heads out, as trust builds and they feel more comfortable in the environment they may tuck their heads in during the day since they feel safe enough to do so. Some birds are also just quirky that way, they may never find it necessary to fully tuck in during the day.
