nappynomad said: I’m sorry. Sometimes we lose our drive, what made us want to do art in the first place, what made us dedicate ourselves to a certain media. Take your time, take a break. Try other things. Give yourself time.
thanks, guys. c: sometimes i just gotta remember to breathe. and then approach the problem from a different angle. i feel sort of out of practice in doing actual illustrative pieces that aren't just environments (because that's what i do at work) or quick character sketches (because that's usually all i have time for on my own) and it's just really frustrating. i forgot that lines aren't even the way my brain naturally thinks. i'm more of a form and color person.
the thing is i really want to do some paintings for christmas presents this year, so i only have so much time. :c luckily, when i said "screw it i'm blocking this in with colors" i got a colorstudy/thumbnail that may be usable? i'll post the one worthwhile thing i managed from tonight. i think my new year's resolution will need to be "paint more, create more."

I love how she got her money and then chilled. THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!!!
Right she was smart about it lol, like she did her and bounced XD. I wanna say Jada said in an interview that she was channeling Queenie so it's nice to see more information about her.

I am going to need the recipe please.
it was mad simple, tbh
porkchops: - marinate in lemon juice, salt, pepper, and cumin (like 15 min. minimum) - roll in egg wash (mine was 1 medium egg + evaporated milk bc that's the only milk i have in the house lmao) - roll in panko (mine was seasoned) - fry up in hot oil
salad: - throw lil tomatoes in a bowl - rip up basil. throw it in. - rip up mozzarella. throw it in. - hit it with a little salt and pepper - drizzle on balsamic vinaigrette
then eat everything and feel great

Some of JT's favorite Media Studies books
that she hasn't read in a long time jfc what a poser {This post is for the ever-patient nappynomad, who wanted to know some of my favorite media studies books~}
Books: Man. Books. The supremely shitty thing about Media Studies books is that they're rendered old/"snapshot of history" status in, like, five minutes. (Some titles try to compensate by having about a billion editions.) This can be kind of good in a way, though? If a chapter leaves you hanging like 'maybe someday in the future blah blah will happen', and you're reading in 2014 where it already has, it will prompt you to think critically about whatever that subject was. Hooray?
Disclaimer: I went to UCB, where media studies greatly overlaps with film/journalism/psychology101/anthropology/sociology, so some of the books reflect that. Also this list is p.heavily US Centric.
STILL, uhm. I like these:
America on Film: Representing Race, Class, Gender, and Sexuality in the Movies, 2nd Edition
Decoding Advertisements: Ideology and Meaning in Advertising
Consent of the Networked: The Worldwide Struggle for Internet Freedom
Media & Society - I have the 4th edition but apparently there's a fifth.
Critical Terms for Media Studies
Practices of Looking: An Introduction to Visual Culture
Critical Media Studies: An Introduction
Figures of Speech: First Amendment Heroes and Villains - My professor happened to be the author of this book, so idak if I enjoyed the book or his teaching of it, lol.
Media and Society: A Critical Perspective
No Caption Needed: Iconic Photographs, Public Culture, and Liberal Democracy
The Television Will Be Revolutionized - I thought this was a little boring, but it is a relatively good summary of television as a medium
The Image: A Guide to Pseudo-Events in America - There's a few core ideas in here that I find interesting, and the rest is ehhhhh.
Privilege, Power, and Difference - This is a really 101 book that I'd give to beginners. But that's why I like it. "Here, read this and get out of my face."
The Googlization of Everything, And Why We Should Worry
Yay!
