For the 40 questions meme: 2., 4., 5. & 8.? :)
A trope I like that I want to dive into: I did it once in another fandom but it's only half finished so I wouldn't call it successful but modern AU. It's really up my alley and yet there's so much content in canon divergence in OL that I just haven't had time to go there yet. I'm exploring the canon before creating my own thing. I have an idea for a few and one that I want to post for the @lordjohngreyreadingnook Cocoa and Kink event coming up. It's outlined almost in full but needs to be fleshed out. I imagine I'll have a few of these under my belt eventually. Also mine and @iihappydaysii favourite, a fake dating/marriage scenario. I have no idea how to make it good but damn, I want that so badly for Jamie and John.
How many ideas am I toying with right now? Share one: I'll break it down like this. I have detailed outlines for two things I expected to write this month but work and pregnancy got the best of my energy. My ideas Google doc has 8 ideas/plot bunnies currently, some more fleshed out than others. I get overwhelmed with too many things so I tend to focus on one at a time and am surprised I juggled two even in the note phase. An idea that I don't expect to come until the new year is my first multi chapter in this fandom with J/J/C and I'm so excited to write it but also terrified. I have 5,500 words of notes currently and just love the idea. It's entirely inspired by @mistresspandorawritesthings More Eloquent than Words and The Silver of Moonlight by JRC10.
Share a strength: Not another one! This sucks, okay. I'm gonna say I'm a picky reader. I'm an editor at heart and sometimes I'll read and edit as I go just to myself like a psychopath. So, the idea of something, even if it's just a short oneshot, has to be a little bit more in some way. That sounds so pretentious but even if it's different from things I've read before. A twist or a surprise like I described in one of Ash's questions. I don't like or feel inspired by something simple. I want it a little complicated or weird or dark or wacky. Is that a strength? I think those things make for more interest but that's entirely personal preference. I hope that makes sense.
Fraser paused, a firm mask dropping over his face to conceal any emotion to interpret. "Aye."
"And you meant to...?" John looked utterly bewildered.
Jamie gulped down the bile rising in his throat, his hands clasping tight behind his back and his head nodding once and curtly. "...aye."
Grey didn't waver. "Why the devil would you be...?"
An exasperated sound left the Scot as he faced the Englishman's stubborn resolve to pry into business that was not his own.
"It isna mae place tae tell ye an' I willna."
A sound of horror drew his attention but Jamie didn't look at John's face, unable to face the shame in his assumption.
"This is Lady Geneva Dunsany's bedroom. Soon to be Lady Ransom, Countess of Ellesmere, Mr. Fraser. If you mean to enter at all, let alone this time of night then I must assure you that no connection between us will prevent you from meeting my blade."
"I promise ye, Major. She kens I'm comin'."
The horrored eyes shocked wider and Jamie sighed deeply at the obvious misunderstanding.
"No, no. No' like tha'..." His hands felt large and swollen as he tossed them up in near defeat and turned his back on his friend. A cautious hand fell to his shoulder and the voice turned more solemn.
"Then tell me, Jamie. Please. For as of the current moment, I must kill you to preserve your honour as much as my own… though I take no pleasure in either."
John demands to know why Jamie is pacing outside Geneva's bedroom and Jamie tries to avoid bringing him into the situation in The Devil Itself. This is the first time I wrote John and I was really intimidated but I was pretty happy with the execution of his voice by the end. I particularly like his bit about Jamie meeting his blade no matter their connection. I love when they bicker and love when they're stubborn and there's so much in what they don't say and don't want to say. For someone obsessed with dialogue, I love that part of them. This shows it literally in their half sentences and half truths. Jamie and John's biggest problem is they don't talk to each other enough in an honest way or in a vulnerable way so it explodes so quickly and easily which is so fun. I'm into the intensity that brings. They also have this incredible weak spot for each other so you can really push the characters to the point of insanity because (despite some bad canon behavior from Jamie), they never want to hurt each other. They're married with a son. The end. The power dynamic in Helwater is also a fun thing to play with compared to other points in their relationship.
