Making the first steps again
Prompt - Could you do a Jay (TW) one shot where he’s in a car accident on the way to meet up with the boys, Nareesha and Kelsey and it’s really bad and maybe he has to get a leg amputated and the boys help him through physio therapy and getting a prosthetic?
------
Jay knew he was late. Blame it on the alcohol or blame it on the late night party of yesterday but it still did no good to the boy who woke up late just on the day that he had to meet up with the others. He was so excited to meet up with the boys because after their band went on break, they hardly met with each other let alone the whole group meeting up. But they planned this for long now and finally they were about to see each other. Jay just needed to rush before he gets stuck in traffic and he just needed to push through this blinding headache. But unfortunately, he never made it.
------
As he rushed to his car, still tugging on his jeans, Jay cursed his luck.
“Damn it! Did I have to be late today only?” Jay mumbled to himself as he got behind the wheels.
“Do you have to shine in my eyes only” Jay shouted at the sun, not wanting to voice out that he was most probably experiencing a hangover!
He was very excited to see his bandmates. And Kelsey and Nareesha.
Tom and Kelsey were about to get married.
Siva and Nareesha were engaged. He wondered how his Jiva partner was doing?
Max and his acting career!
Little Nath’s solo adventure…
There was a lot going on his mind as Jay smiled to himself, rounding a corner and never seeing the car that was coming in full speed at him.
The last thing Jay knew was his leg being jammed in the door next to him as the car simply turned over itself in the accident. The horror-filled gasps echoed in his ears as the ambulance blazing sirens became a welcoming sound for Jay.
------
Once Max arrived, he sighed as he found that they were missing someone.
“That tall and clumsy idiot is late” Max sighed.
“He must be on his way” Nathan came to Jay’s defense quickly, as if it was second nature to him, which actually was when they were still in the band.
“We know that buddy. He’s always been like that” Tom smirked.
Max ruffled Nathan’s hair, chuckling when Siva’s phone rang and flashed Jay’s caller id.
Nareesha was the first to felt the tremor that went through Siva as she quickly held onto Siva’s hand.
“What’s wrong Seev?” Kelsey asked.
“Jay’s been in an accident” Siva gasped out.
As soon as the words left his mouth, Siva was scrambling to get up and rush to the car, knowing the others were on the move behind him too.
------
It was a mad race to the hospital and once they reached there, they couldn’t even see Jay since the boy was already taken into surgery. They sat in the waiting room and after a long wait, they were met by the doctor.
“He’s going to be okay, right?” Max straightaway asked.
“He will but it’s going to be a long process.” The doctor sighed.
“Long process as in…” Tom trailed off.
“He has to go through physiotherapy. His leg was completely crushed under the weight on the car. One of the legs suffered multiple breaks while the other was in a worse condition. We had to amputate one of the legs” The doctor informed them.
Tom sat down heavily in shock as his knees simply gave up. Kelsey sat next to him, squeezing his shoulder as she tried to stop her own tears.
Siva had his head buried in his hands and Nareesha was still gripping onto his hand.
Max didn’t even bother to hide his emotions as he kept mumbling, “This can’t happen. Not to Jay.”
Nathan simply buried his head in Max’s shoulder and sobbed his fears for Jay.
------
They were all hurting for Jay but once the boy regained consciousness, they tried to mask their hurt feelings by a forced and fake smile when they met the boy.
“Hey…” Tom quietly mumbled as he watched Jay try and wake up.
“How are you feeling now?” Kelsey completed Tom’s sentence, knowing the boys were trying hard not to break down.
“Numb…” Jay whispered and Nathan could feel his heart tightened at that.
Jay tried to push himself up the bed when Max stopped him, “I’ll help you.”
“No, I can. I need to move a little. Can’t really feel my legs” Jay muttered and as he tried to push himself up he realized one thing. He could only feel one of his legs. With a frantic movement, he flipped off the blankets and found himself with a missing leg.
“It’s okay. It’s okay, Jay” Siva was quick to cover Jay up again as he pulled the boy in a hug.
“My leg… My leg… They didn’t cut it off! Please, tell me they didn’t… Oh my God” Jay gasped, crying his heart out in Siva’s arms.
And once again, the boys could only helplessly cry along with Jay while trying their best to calm Jay down.
------
The doctors kicked them out finally. At first, it was because they couldn’t calm down themselves let alone calm Jay down. Then it was because Jay didn’t want to see anyone of them. He was wallowing in self-pity and was too frustrated to meet anyone. Finally, the doctors kicked them out because despite Jay ignoring them, they sat in his room for hours and hours.
But still, it didn’t stop the boys from coming back the next day. Nothing could keep them from visiting their best friend.
They were the ones to suggest a prosthetic despite Jay’s angry yell of, “I don’t want that stupid fake leg.”
They were the ones to force the boy through physiotherapy despite Jay’s refusal.
They were not going to let the boy be alone or ruin his life.
------
Physiotherapy with a prosthetic wasn’t easy. Jay would feel his hopes increased whenever he made some progress and those very hopes would get crushed when he just couldn’t even lift his leg. But throughout it all, his friends never left his side.
“Stop recording” Jay hissed at Tom who was live on instagram, recording Jay take some not so stable steps but still trying.
“Shh… Just focus on walking. Come to me buddy. Walk to Daddy” Tom cheered.
“Ugh… Not Daddy. That’s weird” Max corrected Tom.
“Can you all shut up? Look he’s walking” Siva stated.
“Come on Jay. You can do it” Nathan cheered as he spread his arms wide and encouraged Jay.
“Yeah, come on Jay. Walk to your little brother.” Tom cheered too.
“That’s better.” Max acknowledged.
“You did it” Nathan exclaimed hugging Jay when the man reached him.
Jay did stumbled once he reached Nathan but Siva and Max were quick to hold onto him as they wrapped their arms around him and Nathan.
“We’re proud of you buddy” Tom mumbled, joining in the hug to make it a group hug.
Jay couldn’t help but let a little smile creep up on his face. He managed to make his first steps again.
------
Jay’s life definitely changed after this accident. It wasn’t easy to start a new life with the trauma of an accident and with having to lose a leg. But with his prosthetic one and with the help of the boys, he was slowly learning how to live this new life. And maybe, he’d get through this smoothly this time as he makes his first steps again.

Hope you all like it.
