Lakme Fashion Week- Day 1 Roundup
Day 1 of the Lakme Fashion Week extravaganza began with a soiree of cocktails and six debutant designers taking the runway at MSA to showcase their premiere collections.
Highlights of Day 1 included Nikhil Thampi’s “Untamed” collection. Unabashedly Sexy and overtly stylish- “untamed” is the go to collection for women who exude a quiet confidence in their sexuality.
Thampi sent a variety of silhouettes down the runway that have not previously been seen at Lakme Fashion Week, but encompass the changing face of fashion in India today.
Kicking off the collection in a virginal white palette consisting of tuxedo smoker jackets with cutaways and sharp lines.
Transitioning into hues of browns in buttery soft leather with a final evolution into dynamic deeper hues ranging from blue to burgundy red, Thampi’s collection showed true diversity for the modern fashionistas capsule wardrobe.
The Love Heritage London team caught Vogue’s Fashion Director- Anaita Shroff Adajania- sitting frow giving her seal of approval with the epic ‘nod’ to the collection.
Veteran Designer- Narendra Kumar’s collection- Dark Love- inspired by abstract expressionist artist Franz Kline breathed a fresh eclectic breath of air into Day 1’s proceedings. Spanning four moods of love- happiness, attachment, violence and obsession- Kumar provoked fashion emotions with his contrasting colours and prints for his lines aesthetic.
Equal parts commercial mixed with an unabashed visual creative license- Narendra Kumar’s collection attracted frow celebrities fashion personalities such as Pooja Bedia and Tanushree Datta.
And last but by no means least- the dramatic close to Day 1 was bought to the fashion crowd by the fashion mogul- Mr Tarun Tahiliani. Encompassing elegance and modern day moods- Tarun also presented pieces from his heritage handloom saris and dupattas woven in traditional techniques such as the warp stop motion.
Finding a happy medium between heritage Indian fashion and a Parisian tailored style- Tarun’s collection was deliciously prim in a somewhat muted colour palette- for the versatile fashion personality.
With showstopper Jacqueline Fernandez taking the ramp at the Grand Hyatt in this deliciously summer hued ensemble, you can sure bet that jaws were swept off of the floor in preparation for day 2.
