SURVIVING THE PRESENT.

this was my first ever zine. i made it in 2017.

this is, obviously, dated. i made it when i was freshly scared for my loved ones who lived in the US.

there's parts i don't vibe with as much any more. but it was a new way for me to do something with the fresh raw wound that i was tending. i cut these printouts up by hand and pasted them down onto the a3 foldout (because they had money for a3 paper at the library AND i had a lot of unused print credit).

i am thankful for the guy who ran that little zine group that i went to alone in college because i didn't click with most of the class but i was determined to stay because i wanted to learn how to work with communities to make things better.

i wish i knew his name. i want to tell him that i'm still doing it, 8 years later. and i'm working in the field i was studying in. and i'm teaching teenagers how to make zines and channel their joy and their rage and their helplessness and their hope through them the way he taught me.
