They really cast Oscar as Victor and had him as wet, pathetic and naked as possible for us to enjoy
only to then introduce this doe-eyed baby boy and guess what?
I forgot all about how pretty Oscar is after that!!!!

The rest of the fandom realizing the suffer brothers aren’t actually very good writers and think they’re much smarter than they are is kind of funny as a die hard Hellcheer.
Like we been knew since Season 4.
Instead we got ship wars.
(Sidenote: I’d love to know how Joe convinced them to not kill his character when Joseph legit launched himself into outer space with this performance but still had his character killed off)
I think a lot of the whole struggling to understand why his son forgave Victor at the end and what he was saying in terms of "not being punished or absolved" has to do with this adaptation being deeply catholic and so people who did not grow up with catholicism struggle with some of the way Del Toro used its concepts and iconography and symbols?
The way he combined psychology AND catholicism had me salivating. (I am a lapsed catholic but trust me when I say you can take yourself out of the catholicism but you cannot take the catholicism out of you)
The Angel? The fall from innocence? The way Victor's son realises after the Hunters attempt to kill him that not only is he ostracised from society but what Victor did has also banished him from any promise of an afterlife, of being barred from Heaven by someone else's actions?
The way it reminds me of how the original novel had a quote from Paradise Lost as an epigraph???
Oh it's delicious.
So having finished vol.2 I don’t get the hate… I mean personally I thought the “kidnapping 12 kids” plot was uninspired considering season 4 and I maintain that the Wheeler parents should have died from those injuries considering Eddie only got nibbled on a bit by bats and kicked the bucket (I’m never not gonna be salty about that) but otherwise I don’t think it’s terrible?
I think the issue is actually season 4. The entire plot here would have worked without most of Season 4. And I think that’s the problem.
(And this is coming from a Hellcheer)
They pivoted from the mindflayer as the big bad to vecna and needed to introduce him.
They brought in a couple of side characters who outgrew the plot function they were supposed to serve. (I wrote in 2022 about why I think they fucked up with Eddie in the first place).
Somehow during the lockdown break, they overwrote s4 and it took on a whole life of its own.
This season they’re pivoting back and mostly succeeding but it leaves a lot from s4 dangling and I think that’s the problem they’ve caused themselves.
S4 was opening a door for a whole different direction and they decided to slam it shut.
So if you watch it by mostly pretending this follows s3 it’s not bad?
Oh god the damn hanky discourse is back 😭
Don’t make me dig out the James Hetfield and Slash pictures again!
Oh and while I’m at it, Eddie WOULD NOT WEAR BLACK NAIL VARNISH!
If you want to write about a character of a particular subculture, after going on 4 years the least you could do is a cursory google search about metalheads in the 80s ffs.
EDIT: this is not to say you can’t headcanon him as queer btw! I also headcanon him as bi or pan but please please please don’t use “evidence” that doesn’t exist because you don’t understand a subculture.
Do you think Sauron knew that the guy who cut off his ring in the first place's descendant was also doing the horizontal tango with basically the reborn Luthien?
Because I wonder if he ever saw Aragorn and Arwen together, would it have triggered his Beren/Luthien PTSD?
Would he have just noped straight out of there and gone FAR FAR TO THE EAST FUCK THAT RING, FUCK MIDDLE-EARTH IT'S NOT WORTH IT...
I’m trying to nail down the 90s Eddie look while trying to avoid AI and kids, this shit is everywhere I hate it. I’ll just go with what Metallica looked like back then. 🤦♀️
I should be so pumped about the new season but instead my friend basically had to force me into watching it because this show has just hurt me one too many times. anyway…
Hellfire lives…
😭
