Post 698
I could have sworn I already colored and posted this one, but it turns out I just draw very similar things over and over
This is so important. Five years later and Sasuke finally has his eyes back.
They aren’t voids anymore; simple, pitch black pools of ink. They are eyes now, actual eyes, with a pupil that you can see.
Sasuke literally got his sight back.
He is lying there, on the verge of bleeding to death, admitting to himself that he felt Naruto’s pain like Naruto feels his, that they share a bond, and when Naruto wants to get up again, wants to hit him to make him understand because he will never give up on him, Sasuke tells him “I lost.”
Because he did. Because Naruto was right. Because he cares.
This is the moment Uchiha Sasuke gets his real eyes back and it breaks me all over again every time I re-read it.
I’m going to bed, but you know what
People who claim ‘the manga ended at 698′ are essentially saying, it’s totally okay for Sasuke to give up on his revenge, his ideals and dreams for the world, his vision of hokageship, his path of hatred and loneliness, and all the darkness in his heart. It’s okay for him to consider Team 7 family, to replace Itachi with Naruto, even at his darkest times as a child, and to agree to come back to the village after everything, just because Naruto beat him up enough.
But it’s not okay for him to apologize to Sakura, attempt to befriend and rebuild a relationship with her, and choose to go out on his own journey to find and solidify the redemption and new path he chose in 699.
It’s totally okay for Naruto and Sasuke to have lost the symbols on their hands that should have been able to undo the mass genjutsu, and presumably die together in the valley of the end, thus causing all of humanity other than Kakashi and Sakura to slowly turn into Zetsu.
It’s not okay for them to survive and actually succeed in saving the world.
But mostly here
Apparently it’s totally believable and okay for him to reconcile with Naruto on a dime and admit that Team 7 was always his family, but it’s not okay for him to reconcile with Sakura and Kakashi. Even though he already admitted they were like his new family in 698.
Sasuke was originally left handed And naruto used his right In the end the lost their dominant arms and switch roles before they got the implant Sasuke became a righty And naruto a lefty (I s2g reading these chapters again you see the deeper meaning and learn more)
This old post of mine becomes especially hilarious when I recall that after the chapter was published, Kishi said he was gonna make them hold hands at first but switched it to their arms being blown off for dramatic effect.
