sam & steve for the friendship ask meme thing

who steals french fries off the other’s plate: Sam. He says it’s payment for all that being friends with Captain America entails. Steve has given up complaining about it.

who jokingly moves in for the kiss when someone asks if they’re a couple: Neither. Alhough I think maybe a Steve buzzed with asgardian mead totally would, but he’d do it in a clearly joking way, sticking his tongue out and everything. Sam would be like “in your dreams, man”. 

who has to bust or bail the other out of jail: CW aside, I feel like it’s the same situation as Steve and Nat: if one of them is in jail, the other is probably also there.

who gives the other advice/comfort about dating issues: Sam, definitely. Sam is definitely the person who listens to all of Steve’s romantic woes, and he’s great at giving him advice or just being a friendly ear whenever Steve needs it. Steve is more than willing to do it for him, too, and while I think part of Sam finds it almost weird to receive advice rather than give it, he appreciates Steve’s effort.

who shamelessly cheats at games by reaching over to cover the other’s eyes: Both, but I feel like Sam does it more often. It’s only fair, he argues, since Steve has his enhanced senses in his favor.

who immediately calls dibs on the top bunk: Neither. I actually think it’s probably the opposite situation: both of them insist the other have the top bunk and end up arguing about it for like thirty minutes until Bucky just walks past them, throws his bag on the top bunk and climbs to take the spot.

who starts and who wins the pillow fights: Steve starts, and he often wins as well (again: enhanced senses). Sam has no qualms about playing dirty, especially when he finds out (through Tony) that Steve is quite ticklish.

who says “your pants would look better on their floor” to the other’s potential crush: Sam, without any shame whatsoever. Steve has done it as well, to fight back, but his delivery is not as smooth.

I’ve read soooooo many good stevetony fics recently that I felt like I just had to rec some? Most of these fics I’ve never seen before and I couldn’t figure out how I hadn’t read them yet and I love finding new fics that are so amazing I just have to share them! What We Deserve (T | 4k by Wordsplat)

Summary: Tony is certain he knows exactly what's going on between him and Steve. (Spoiler alert: he doesn't.)

My rec: High school au! Ft oblivious Tony and pining Steve. Actually, there’s more than enough pining to go around, it’s super cute and gives you all the awkward high school feels.

Be Somebody Else (The Mask and Mirror Remix) (T | 4k by Sineala)

Summary: When Tony invites the Avengers to a superhero-themed costume party, Steve knows exactly who he's dressing up as. He can't bring himself to ask Iron Man for assistance, so instead he turns to the man who makes the armor. Tony is more than willing to help Steve with his Iron Man costume -- and in the process, Steve learns a little more about the man behind the mask.

My rec: omg when I first saw this I was like “ok it’s a Halloween fic by Sineala, I’m going to read the shit out of this!” And yes, it’s just as good as you think it is.

And Then There's You (T | 6k by someonelsesheart)

Summary: and it’s funny that they’re like this, isn't it, because there's Tony, too-clever and too-fast, always having to be moving, selfish and desperate and cruel, and then there’s Steve with his kindness, his slow smile and his patience, selfless and calm and kind to everything and everyone. They’re fire and ice, good and bad, and somehow, somehow, it works.

My rec: This fic is a high school au focusing on Tony’ s early years. It’s Tony-centric, and the characterization is spot on. It’s also really beautifully written - another great work from this author!

Summary: Steve takes Tony out for their first date. The world is soft and shining and Tony thinks he'd like to stay this way forever.

My rec: I loooove first date fics and this is the cutest thing ever, they are both so soft and adorable in this fic.

Dangerous Kitchen Tools (E | 18k by ladyshadowdrake)

Summary: Engineering prodigy, billionaire, and heir to the Stark Industries empire, Tony Stark turned the business world on its head by opening a restuarant and burying himself in the kitchen. Years later, he covers an informal evening cooking class for his friend and fellow molecular gastronomist, Bruce Banner, where he meets famously camera-shy comic artist Steve Rogers.

My rec: a cooking au!!! This is my cup of tea. Tony is a famous cook and Steve is an comic artist taking a cooking class, which is brilliant imho. Also it is super hot.

Flower Child (T | 24k by itsallAvengers)

Summary: The point was this, though:In a hundred million universes, in a hundred million different lives, there would never be a single one of them in which Tony Stark deserved anyone like Steve Rogers. Ever.So this? Nonsensical.

My rec: soft!tony in this fic is adorable! I love the characterization and the backstory here is really good. So much fluff!

Summary: Whoever came up with the rule that SHIELD agents in modern times had to be a certain age should be shot. Obviously the solution is for Steve to travel back in time. (If only things were ever that easy.)

My rec: a different kind of high school au with a side of time travel! I love fics where being with Tony makes Steve realize that he wants to stay in this time, and this fic does that really well.

A Wish Your Heart Makes (T | 4k  by Wordsplat)

Summary: Tony's magical night has a few restrictions. Thankfully, his friends are amazing and his prince is exceedingly persistent.

(Very vaguely a Cinderella AU.)

My rec: It’s a high school prom fic! If you can’t tell, high school aus are my favorite, and I love the Avengers as a friend group in this fic.

Summary: The one where... Tony and Steve are classroom neighbors, and the whole school ships it.

My rec: a teacher au! With post-it conversations and lots of pining (in a good way).

Iron Chef  (T | 4k by MemoryDragon)

Summary: Natasha has a broken leg, Tony is in the kitchen cooking, and Steve has a crush he's not sulking about. Chicken soup must be good for the soul, right?

My rec: Tony is feeling guilty (completely unnecessarily ofc) so he cooks (bc that’s totally logical right?) a really cute cooking fic that’s pretty close to early mic canon.

The T-Shirt Means I Love You (G | 1k by laireshi)

Summary: "You’re wearing my clothes.”

Steve wants to take the words back as soon as he said them, because obviously Tony isn’t wearing his clothes, Tony’s not wearing any clothes, Tony’s an artificial intelligence, but Steve wishes Tony were corporeal and wearing his clothes, preferably in his bed.

My rec: AI Tony!!! Steve with a crush! I love it! If you haven’t read the comics it probably won’t make much sense but you can still get by because why wouldn’t you want to read this fic???

Saving You (The Promises Kept Remix) (T | 1.5k by laireshi)

Summary: Tony knows Steve’s weak spot, and he knows that it’s him. For once, it’s not a scary thought, because he will do exactly what Steve asked him to do: he will fight, he will try, and he will succeed in bringing Steve down.

Because he loves Steve, and because Steve loves him, too.

My rec: mmm another great 616 fic by this author (seriously go read everyone they’ve ever written, you’ll love it). Getting Steve back from Hydra-Cap with lots of feels.

Summary: The depth of the flu aisle in the pharmacy is substantial, overwhelmingly so, and Steve is half-convinced he needs to return to the front and trade his basket for a full-on cart.

My rec: a super cute sick!fic! Steve takes care of a sick Tony and has lots of feels about it.

Summary: Inspired by the prompt: "I was studying at 3am and accidentally locked myself out of my dorm room and you have a job with weird hours so you walked by to see me sitting by my door crying in my pajamas. Help me I'm a wreck."

a/n: so this might be weird and random and crack-ish but i've rarely seen oblivious tony fics, it's always steve. let's be real tony can be a big ol' dumb™ too. this is also a steve thirst fest so beware

tony stumbles into his bedroom, groping in the darkness for the handle and closing the door behind him gently.

he can barely make out anything in the darkness, his tired eyes making it only harder.

he begins to slip off his shoes when a soft snore sounds from somewhere in the room.

that startles the sleep out of him. an intruder.

he almost summons the armor but then thinks better.

it's 3 a.m and the person is snoring.

it's likelier that it's just peter crashing his bed, than some assassin who fell asleep on their job.

tony silently makes his way over to the lampshade. he can now make out the silhouette of a big lump on his bed as his eyes adjust to the darkness.

who could it possibly be?

he flips the switch and a dull yellow light floods the room.

it's steve.

he is sprawled in the middle of the king-sized bed, surrounded by several pillows.

oh and— he's naked. very much so.

the silken sheets cover only his mid riff and junk, leaving the thighs and legs exposed to the sultry, summer air. tony doesn't need to check to see whether the captain has gone commando or not.

he doesn't even have to try.

the light seems to have disturbed him because steve begins to stir.

"tony?" he whispers, voice raspy and thick. he rises slowly, blinking furiously and tony regrets ever turning on the light.

"yeah, it's me," tony mumbles, trying hard not to stare at steve's bare chest. tony always knew that the serum had changed a lot about steve but he didn't know just how much.

he tried not to dwell on the question that had crept into the back of his mind— just what all had the serum enlarged in size?

"can i ask what you're doing.. naked..in my bed?" tony manages, looking up finally.

steve has the sexiest bed hair ever.

fuck.

steve looks down at himself and a rose blush creeps up his cheeks.

"i just got back from the mission. i don't think i noticed what room i was going into and i," he says, looking at his palms sheepishly, "-it was very hot."

tony doesn't know whether to laugh or kiss the soldier smack on his stupid, plump lips.

no, tony, focus.

"so you just decided to go commando and fall asleep. on my bed," tony mutters, hoping that the heat spreading across his cheeks doesn't get noticed by steve.

the super soldier closes his eyes at that, as he leans backwards on his elbows, the silken sheet slipping down a little further in the process.

"yeah, it was hot, like I said. and i was—am exhausted," he says, tipping his head back and blowing air through his mouth.

what. the. fuck.

either steve knows all too well just what he's doing to tony or he is completely oblivious and tony is just that unlucky.

either way, tony is done for.

"okay..uhm so.. you can sleep here if you'd like, I'll go crash somewhere else," tony mutters, turning.

he needs to get as far away from steve as possible, before all hell breaks loose.

"you know.. i wasn't asking for permission," steve calls from behind him.

tony turns around slowly, gawking at steve.

did steve- steve, just sass him?

"are you okay, cap?" he asks, eyebrows knitted in confusion and concern.

steve takes a moment to answer, running his hand through his hair, tousling it even more. tony groans internally.

"what do you mean?"

"well for one.. you just sassed me when you're the one with no clothes on."

"you're really frustrated by this, huh? 'thought you'd like having me naked in your bed," steve murmurs, turning on his side.

tony's eyebrows shoot up at that.

"feeling a little rebellious is all," steve answers, even though tony doesn't remember asking him anything.

okay, what the hell just happened?

and then it dawns on him. of course.

tony smiles inwardly, composing himself.

"sure. you know that you're a terrible actor, right?" tony muses, letting out a nervous puff of air.

steve looks offended but tony can tell he's surprised him.

"what?"

'you.. acting all suave and ..sexy. that's not you. at all. what is this? some bet with natasha?"

"oh. so you do think this is sexy?"

tony grinds his teeth.

"that's not what I meant."

steve looks at him for a hard moment and then slumps, the air of confidence disappearing immediately.

"okay, fine. no, there was no bet," he informs gathering the sheets around himself and tony almost whines.

"i wanted you to cave," he adds, shaking his head.

apparently the surprise is clear on tony's face because steve sighs exasperatedly.

"i've seen the way you look at me, tony. i know you know that there's something between us."

tony's eyes widen in horror.

that got real way too fast.

"i've dropped so many hints and hoped that you'd asked me out but my patience is wearing thin. this was the last resort to make you confess."

tony's mouth opens and closes multiple times. he has so much to say but doesn't know where to begin.

".. couldn't you have just asked me yourself?" he asks, still trying to make of everything that just happened. which, by the way, is still hard because steve is still naked.

steve grins. "but where's the fun in that?"

tony rolls his eyes at that but a grins tugs at his lips inspite of himself.

"so .. you like me?" tony asks, suddenly aware that this is real. really real.

steve sighs again.

"come here and i'll prove it to you."

B: Any of your stories inspired by personal experience?

*waggles eyebrows* I don’t think any of my fics are in their entirety, but there’s  a lot of bits that are. For instance, my current wip posting, Hook, Line, and Sinker, has so much LDR stuff that was inspired by me and @ashes0909. My OCs are usually based on people I know. The animals are either mine or my clients, for the most part. I sprinkle in quite a bit of my real life!

M: Got any premises on the back burner that you’d care to share?

Ooo sneaky. Well I wrote about two Ults backburner fics I hope to do someday recently. I also have one that was heavily inspired/helped plan by @willidothefandango where Steve and Tony are divorced with a four-year-old, and they get trapped in the wilderness and have to find their way back to safety and back to love (aww). Def on my to-write list! I also have a backburner fic called Brooklyn, where Tony and Steve are on a sleeper-quinjet travelling around, trying to sort of solve a mystery/mission and also not murder each other in close quarters. When @sabrecmc wins the lottery, I’m going to convince her to fund my fic habit as well as her own so I can get all these things done!

N: Is there a fic you wish someone else would write (or finish) for you?

Hahaha, all of them? I always get about 70% through and then I desperately want someone else to finish it. A few times, I have actually made @ashes0909 finish something for me. I really like ideas, and I really like making outlines, and I really like writing some of the scenes, and I really like having a finished fic. Still a bit salty about what goes in the middle there...
