BlackWidow: In what world do you think I have a say in dismissing this meeting?
One side of your mouth twitched upward in a small smirk as you read her reply, stealing a glance over to where Natasha sat on the other side of the room. Her attention was trained dutifully towards the front of the room, a well-practiced look of cool detachment coloring her features. You’d been sitting in this briefing for over an hour; Hill was caught in another meeting and you were stuck listening to her replacement drone on about mission protocol you’d heard a thousand times before.
Agent12-84r: Aren’t you famous or something now?
Agent12-84r: Also, why does your username get to be anything other than a bunch of random code?
Natasha’s gaze dropped to the tablet screen in front of her for a moment, and she typed out a reply as the lecturer turned his attention towards your side of the room.
BlackWidow: Please don’t remind me.
BlackWidow: What makes you think I have control over that?
Agent12-84r: Are you saying you don’t?
The corner of Natasha’s lips twitched upward in an infuriatingly almost-smile, and she pointedly turned her attention to the speaker again. You spent so many of these seemingly endless meetings sending messages back and forth with Nat, and not once had you managed to break her composure. It had become something of a running challenge, and with each mind-numbing debriefing you became more and more determined to make her waver in her cool demeanor.
How you’d never been caught, you had no idea.
The man in front of you was droning on about correct recon procedure, and you slid your fingertips along your phone screen, scanning your images idly in search of some kind of meme that might finally break her. Most of them were ones you had exchanged with Barton on late night stake outs, and your continued to scroll for a few minutes before your finger paused.
You cast a look at the agent beside you before opening the image that had caught your eye, a small smirk playing on the edge of your mouth. You’d taken in front of a full-length mirror, a teasing smile on your face and the bathrobe you were wearing barely covering your naked body. Your hair was still wet from a shower, water droplets clinging to the smooth line of your sternum and leaving lines over your bare stomach.
Opening the options you opened your texts instead, and you cast another glance towards Natasha before pressing send.
Her phone buzzed quietly against the tabletop, and you trained your eyes forward as she glanced surreptitiously towards you. You watched out of your periphery as she opened the message, both pride and excitement blooming inside you as you finally saw her façade break, her lips curving in a smile. She met your eye as she sent a response.

You sat with your knees pulled close to your chest, silent tears streaming down your face. You held your breath, your mind a mantra of numbers.

Natasha’s words rang through your head, each repeated syllable caused another wave of panic and nausea to overcome you.
Why do you have to be a burden all the time, Y/N. God, my job is hard enough without your nagging.
You tried to keep the sobs contained in your chest as you rocked back and forth on the bed, Natasha’s side unused and cold. She was probably at the bar, you thought, that’s where she always went after an argument. She would stumble back in around 3am, breath smelling of beer and some other girls perfume.
But you never said anything. You didn’t want to annoy her anymore than you already did.
You didn’t want to loose her completely. She still came home to you, didn’t she? That had to mean something.
It wasn’t a secret that you were afraid of change. You guessed thats why your relationship with Natasha stayed the same, never changing from the nights of eating dinner alone, sitting still while Natasha yelled at you, waiting for her to come home reeking of alcohol and infidelity.
You wished she would just tell you to leave, kick you out. You wished you would come home one day to her shoving your things in suitcases, forcing you out of your shared apartment. That would allow you to leave, allow her to find someone that she wouldn’t fall out of love with, someone who wouldn’t bother her with mundane questions of whether or not she was okay, how the mission went. Find someone who loved her better than you did.
Natasha reminded you everyday of how she could find someone better, that your relationship, your love, wasn’t enough for her. She reminded you everyday that you weren’t enough, yet you still stayed with her.
You don’t know when your relationship went south. You look back on the romantic dates and forehead kisses like one does on a fading memory.
You don’t know what you did to make her fall out of love.
It felt like a lifetime since you were happy. Like centuries had passed since Natasha last smiled at you with love shining in her eyes. You knew everyone had to make mistakes in life and surely you had done a lot of things wrong. Loving Natasha was one of them. Falling in love with her had to be one of the biggest mistakes of your life. Because now, she was no longer in love with you and you can’t move on. You felt like you were dying inside with each passing day filled with dreading every second.
You heard the front door open, Natasha’s drunken footsteps echoing through the halls. She stumbled a few times, bumping into the walls. When she opened the bedroom door, all she did was stare at you blankly. You avoided her gaze, not wanting her to see the tears in your eyes and staining your cheeks. Instead, you looked at your closet, where your suitcase was stored. Maybe today she would kick you out, tell you to leave. Maybe today she would set you free from the prison you trapped yourself in.
“Why are you still awake?” Her cold voice cut through the silence as she slurred her words. You maneuvered yourself under the covers of the bed, pulling the blanket up to your chin. You shrugged in response to her question. Natasha scoffed.
“Really? No answer?”
You sniffed, wiping away stray tears as you once again shrugged in response. Natasha shook her head as she changed into her pajamas, coming to sit next to you in bed. Her eyes bore into you as she took in your shaking form, you had obviously been crying. While guilt blended through her system, you braced yourself for the words she had spoken to you every night.
After all, she reminded you everyday you weren’t enough but you still stayed.

I knew she would be at the dinner party. There was no escaping Natasha, especially when you are her friend.
One can only imagine how you could possibly think to live without her once you become her lover.
“Hello!” Her smirk didn’t fool me. I knew better than to trust her perfectly good looks. Dressed in emerald satin, she was gorgeous, of course. Hot enough to entice anyone and everyone, even my date for the evening.
I couldn’t even be jealous. I was staring, too.
“I’ve heard so much about you,” she easily lied, giggling in perfect deceit when he reached out to kiss the hand she offered. “Oh my, what a gentleman. Oh, Y/N, you really know how to choose them, huh?”
Only I really, really didn’t.
Because if I did, I would have known better than to get into any sort of relationship with the Black Widow. Even a strictly sexual one.
“What do you think you’re doing?” I hissed once my date got distracted, only to be at the receiving end of one of her perfectly manufactured smiles. It didn’t fool me.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about!” She replied, but underneath her mask, I could see the fire in her eyes. I knew her well enough to detect the clipped tone in her voice, how cold she was behaving towards me. “I’m happy for you, honey! I really am.”

Nat’s P.O.V.
I waited on her couch for over two hours, silently steaming as I wondered what she could be doing from the time she left the dinner until she got back to her place.
There was no way she’d be dumb enough to spend the night with that guy.
Still, a part of me was scared. That’s why the sound of her heels provoked a sigh of relief to escape my lips, before the anger that I’d been struggling at keep at bay took over my mind once more.
“Wrong move, princess.” I was on her the second she walked through the door, pulling her hair back so I could capture her lips in a kiss that was all teeth and tongue. “What were you thinking? Trying to break off our arrangement for that guy?”
Scoffing, I let her go just to watch her struggle to keep her balance in those high heels she wore. The dress she had chosen was the perfect trap to reel me in, and I licked my lips at the memories of the countless times I had her underneath me, fully nude.
“He’d never be able to get you off.” She avoided my eyes because she knew it was the truth. Still, it seemed like she needed at least some sort of reminder. “Get naked,” I ordered.
“Nat…” She tried to argue, but it only made me angrier. Closing the distance between us again, I pulled her by her hair to whisper threateningly in her ear.
“You know better than to call me that.” She started to tremble in my hands, slowly lowering the straps of the dress she wore as I watched until it pooled around her ankles and she was left fully naked, revealing the fact that she hadn’t been wearing any underwear underneath the dress, not even a thong.
“Whore.” She turned her head to the side, avoiding my eyes at the name. “Tell me, slut. What do you call me?” I knew she could see how furious I was, circling her trembling form with fire in my eyes. She wouldn’t have the courage to deny me, not anymore.
“Mistress.”
“That’s right.” Stepping closer to her, I grabbed her by the back of her neck to kiss her fiercely, only to bite down on her bottom lip hard once we broke apart for air. “And I’m going to remind you who you belong to now.”
I shoved her onto the floor, where she fell on her hands and knees. It was exactly how I wanted her to be. “You don’t deserve to be fucked in a bed,” I warned her, getting down on my knees behind her, pulling on her hair. “Do you even know the pain you subjected me to?”
Swiping my fingers on her pussy, spreading her open, I found her how I knew she would be: wet. She was always ready for me. It was one of the reasons why I just couldn’t let her go.
“You’re mine,” I reminded her. “You thought you could go ahead and leave me, but I will always own this body.” Discarding my own clothes, I revealed the thick dildo I was wearing, prompting a moan of anticipation to fall from her lips as she caught sight of it from over her shoulders.
“This tiny fucking hole…” I proceeded, rubbing the head of the toy against her opening. “… that I stretched open. And you thought I would let you leave without a fight.”

“I don’t want to hear your sounds tonight,” I snapped, covering her mouth with my hand. “Shut the fuck up. You knew this was going to happen.”
My anger started to melt when her lips wrapped around two of my fingers, sucking on them until I groaned. “I-I’m sorry,” was the first thing she said once I let her speak again, but although the worst of my fire had started to dim, I was still nowhere near done with her.
“Oh, are you?” I mocked. “What are you sorry for? Placing a target on the man who had the guts to touch what’s mine or playing with me?” The sharp inhale of breath that resonated across the room warned me that she’d caught onto my intentions.
“Please, don’t hurt him,” she quietly begged, and had she asked me later, perhaps I would have given her a different answer altogether. But while I was still blind by jealousy and hurt, it was hard to consider anything other than what I promised her:
“I am going to ruin you.”
By the time I was done with her, she looked the part: so unbelievably pretty, covered in sweat and my bite marks. She wouldn’t forget who owned her, not anymore.

Years.
It has been two years since you first started training at the avengers compound. That’s how long you have been in love with the greatest avenger in history, Natasha Romanoff. You were quiet and collected, serious but goofy and she was almost like that. Unfortunately, you didn't know her as well as you'd like.
You swore she kept her distance, never saw her hanging around a lot. She was a hard-working woman, an example to live by. Yet you longed to tend to her wounds and read her poetry before she fell asleep. you wanted to take care of her and wrap her up in the softest lullaby.
Daily you thought of her. You memorized her favorite things and the way she drank her coffee. What she ate and how delicate and elegant her movements were. Her face and all of her micro-expressions. Keep secret notes inside your head. She always smiled the brightest when there were pancakes available in the mornings.
As an oath, you kept close to your heart, that one time you caught her looking at you while you were all dressed up for that particular spy mission. Followed by that one time she accidentally brushed her hand over yours for a long time while you were training on the mat. You swore she looked aggravated when you nervously jolted your hand back. She looked hurt at the sudden motion as if she wanted your hand on her.
But she could never look at you like that, could she? She could never look at with you love. That's what you had convinced yourself plus you had no confirmation or affirmation of her sexual preferences. So you longed and yearned, suffering in silence.
Today you were together, fighting side by side in a foreign country far away from home. After particularly strong debris, you were dressed in your black avenger's suit, your face covered in cuts and a messy ponytail. This battle was brutal, but alas you saved the city. The worst was over. The enemy was defeated.
You look at her. Your heart is aching, if anything happened to her today, you wouldn’t have been able to live with yourself. That was true but nothing could ever happen to her, she was the greatest avenger after all. What had truly startled you what that she had saved you. She ran across the field just to push you out of the way of a strong hit.
You look at her in disbelief, she looks back at you. There is something in her eyes, something made out of love and the way she repeats your name in her panicky state makes your heart flutter. For once you wonder what would it be like to see her every day? Waking right by her side, murmuring the first good mornings, holding her in your arms.
Your eyes linger, you could stare at her beautiful frame for eternity. Evidently, you could have waited forever for a glance, a touch, something, anything that would validate your feelings. She takes your hand, holds it close to her, and squeezes it. All thoughts and feelings blur into one when you hear her next words.
"I love you too."
She whispers and her voice sounds broken and hollow as if she had said it a thousand times in her sleep.
Shit, you must have blurted the words out when she saved you instead of saying thank you.
You blink at her, she must be a very polite person, you think. But why do you feel as though you walked straight into a daydream? Is your mind playing tricks on you? Did she really mean what she said?
“You are not dreaming, angel. I can promise you that. You’re just a love fool. Just like me. I'm sorry I should have said something sooner but I was afraid you would reject me.”
"Natasha?"
You are in tremendous shock, finding it very hard to process the words escaping from her lips. The red-haired woman doesn’t speak again, she just leans forward and brushes her lips over yours in a kiss. Softer than a cloud, velvet and smooth.
You can feel your heart beating faster. This is not a daydream. This is it. You kiss her back without speaking. You don't need words anymore when you know you can have action.
"I love you too."
You blurt quickly out before catching her lips again in a kiss, cupping her face warmly.

You can feel someone watching you but you push it off, you’re almost going to be late and you’re cursing yourself for stopping to grab a coffee before you've gotten to the train station.
Natasha’s watching leaning forward over the railing distracted by the way you’re trying to balance the cup of coffee and your bag in your hands. When Bucky appears grinning excited to tell her about his latest pact he stalls watching her for a moment, recognising that she’s interested in the human she’s watching not in the usual pact making and corruption way.
”Natalia, be careful.” Bucky grins and Natasha swats his arm.
“I’m always careful.”
“You’ve never been interested in this way; especially not a human like her.”
“What’s wrong with her?” Natasha snaps and Bucky just laughs.
“That’s what’s wrong.” Bucky mimes a noose around his neck and Natasha snarls.
“See you’re protective of her, and you’ve only seen her in passing; humans aren’t good for our kind.”
“Like you’d know James.”
“Yes I would.” He snarls, and Natasha jerks her arm back but it’s not fast enough Bucky’s clawed arm digging into the flesh on her side. He pulls it back and she’s already healing.
“You know what humans got me.”
“He wasn’t a normal human.”
“How do you know this one won’t be?” Bucky leaves after that and Natasha scowls a little already growing annoyed that Bucky was trying to lecture her.
”Sorry…” Natasha pretends to bumble about, finally managing to actually do more than watch you.
“It’s alright.” You smile at the redheaded woman as she dusts herself off, you’re a little surprised none of your coffee has spilled and you send a thank you up for small miracles.
She smiles at you and you can’t help but grin back, something about her almost hypnotizing.
“Sorry about that.” She mentions again and you assure her it’s no problem and then your frown looking around; you could have sworn she was holding coffee as well.
“Your coffee?” You question and she laughs, shaking her head.
“I just tossed it; which is what made me bum into you.”
You see her more and more and you assume she’s gotten a job somewhere that requires her to commute but you notice you never see her on your way home; you worry she pulls later hours than you, which is saying something as most nights you get home at eleven pm.
You’ve learned her name is Natasha and she works in some corporate office hellhole and she’s fairly high up in the food chain, which is obvious when she asks you to lunch and takes you to one of the most expensive places you’ve been.
You meet her only friend, James, he works in the same department and you would swear he hates you but you don’t have any proof.
You spend weeks and then months like this, not really dating but more than friends; stuck in some kind of limbo, until she meets you in the morning and you can tell something is different. She seems worried and sad and actually scared so your first thought is that something happened to James or her job, but she says she wants to talk to you. You’re dreading the awkward we’re-not-dating-break-up speech she’s going to give but instead you find yourself sitting with her in the same place she took you for dinner the first time.
“I lied about my job.” She mumbles and you wonder if she’s going to confess to having loads of debt.
“Oh what do you actually do?”
“I’m a demon. I make pacts with- Y/N?”
“You’re a demon? One of those creatures that drains people's souls and their whole lives and ruins them and- is that what you’re doing to me?”
“Would I be paying for everything if I was draining your ‘whole life'’'? She looks like she’s trying not to laugh and you pout a little.
“It’s a lot to take in…”
“You don’t seem to be hung up on the demon part; more about me using you..”
“I mean one of my friends is a werewolf so you know; I already know about the whole supernatural side of things.”
“Ah, huh well that’s interesting…So you’re uh, not scared of me?”
“No I’m not Nat; if you wanted to hurt me you would have done so already…Probably multiple times. Plus I always heard demon pacts were instant.”
“They are; it’s an automatic draining; so you make the pact; get everything you wanted for 24 hours then we collect payment.”

You find yourself still leaning closer to Nat and getting more and more excited the more at ease she seems to be with you. You’re excited for the future together and when she finishes paying for the meal she makes a comment about bringing you on another date that makes you blush all the way on the train home.
Summary: is what the title says, I wrote this when thinking about when I was younger how I had a really hard time accepting that I’m bi, and I still haven’t told any of my family coz they’re homophobic so I expressed myself through this. Thankyou sm for reading 💛

She knew she liked you, in the same way that she had liked men in the past, but she didn’t know how to feel in regards to it. Her parents were very opinionated when it came to all the sexualities that were now on the spectrum.
Natasha had always been an ally, it was hard for her to accept that she may have been more. Her tongue wetted her dry lips as she saw you walk towards her, she didn’t know what to say, nor to do as you went in to hug her. Eventually her arms wrapped around you also, she breathed in your vanilla perfume, finding herself to quite like it.
“So… have you thought about what I said?” Thought about it?! It was all that was on her mind! She was definitely flattered that someone as attractive as yourself found yourself wanting to move forwards with her, and she knew she shouldn’t have felt ashamed for wanting the same thing deep down, but she couldn’t help her overreactive emotions.
It had been built into her, bred even. And whilst she had shook the old fashioned alterations from her mind and became a part of the new world that the latest generation accepted and brought into light, she couldn’t admit that she was a part of the LGBT. It wasn’t due to anything of the such that her parents would assume, she was fearful of what they would think, not to mention that coming out would be a shocker to the many people that she knew.
“Yes, I did.” A gulp swallowed down her throat as she ogled helplessly at you, her hand brushing back some of her red hair out from her face. She was crazily nervous, she usually didn’t have a problem putting on a facade to hide her true emotions, but the last thing that she ever wanted to do to you was to lie. That was something that would be red in the ledger of the rest of her life. “I- um, I can’t y/n. I’m really sorry but-“
“It’s okay.” No it wasn’t, she could see how broken you were by her reaction, though rather than becoming mad by it you were accepting, which was one thing that her family was not, excluding her little sister Yelena. It made her heart swarm by the realisation that the last thing that you were wanting to do was to push anything with her, you respected her view point and hardship, and as quiet as it was, she came to the conclusion that it wasn’t what she wanted.
Natasha wanted you to shout at her, scream, something! She felt herself needing that shove of confrontation to unveil her true feelings, though prying was not one of your strong suits. “Is that all that you’re going to say?” She warily asked with her eyebrows drawn together. A huff of air fell from your lips as evidence of a breathy laugh and a pained smile was conjured upon your lips, the sight was on that Nat found to be of beauty, and she wished that there was a softer meaning behind its presence.
“What do you want me to say Nat?” Your voice was weak as you questioned her, and out of conflicted feelings she looked down at the ground, uncertain of how to word what she was thinking; her thoughts were haywire, it was as though she had an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other, their constant battling tormented her to frail confusion, until she didn’t know exactly what she wanted. “I’ve said everything already. It’s okay as I said, we don’t have to happen.”
“But I want it to.” Her tone was quiet as she dared to glance into your gentle eyes. “I just don’t know- there’s too m- I do like you y/n.” It took her a few tries to admit but it was a relief to get the weight from pondering upon her chest. “It’s b- I can’t, I’m not sure how to do this.” She gestured between the two of you, licking her lips that seemed rather dry as she talked.
“That’s fine.” You stepped closer to her so that she could smell your perfume again, you pursed your lips as you looked at her before gripping her shaky hand. “We don’t have to rush anything, we can go at your pace. I’m more than okay with taking it slow because with you it would be more than worth it. Can I-“
Your question was abandoned before it was completed as Nat pulled you closer, nervously cupping your face before she daringly pecked your lips, pulling away after a short moment. “I liked that.” She admitted aloud, and that was only the start to her path of accepting who she was, and that to love a woman may have not been planned, but she definitely wasn’t opposed to the heartfelt ordeal.
“So did I.” You reciprocated her words, resting the bridge of your nose against her own. Her heart was thundering inside of her chest, you soothed her by stroking down her arms, entwining your fingers at the end of relaxing her jittery body. “But I like you so much more than that.” There was always a risk of being hurt no matter who you fell for, but you knew that to never be Natasha’s intention, she was new to this and there would no doubt be bumps in the road, though whatever mistakes she made whilst learning she would always pick you back up and vice versa on the journey.

Five times someone asked the Black Widow on a date and one time someone asked Natasha Romanoff on a date.

“It’s not going to work.” You shot Matt down instantly when he began to tell you his plan. You only had to hear the words ‘okay, so The Widow’ before you were shaking your head.
He looked up from where he was signing his name with a flourish at the end of his mission report and frowned at you.
“What? How the hell would you know that?” He asked incredulously. “We’d be a power couple, together we’d have the record for most successful missions.”
“She holds that record on her own.” You reminded him and he rolled his eyes, punching your arm like you were being dense just to annoy him. He dropped his paper work into the basket on your desk and then folded his arms.
“I’m second.” No he wasn’t. He was just listening to the majority of the other assholes you all worked with and excluding certain people based on their past.
“Bucky Barnes is second, you just won’t count him because you’re an asshole.” You reminded him, signing off on the paperwork you had been reading and then lifted his mission report. “Also you keep spelling Kiribati wrong.”
Just to piss him off you circled it in red and handed it back, knowing he’d have to rewrite the whole thing.
“The Soldat has to equal the amount of missions he ran for Hydra before any of his shield ones begin to count.” Matt scoffed, snatching the paperwork from you and returning to his own desk, picking up two new sheets of paper with a grunt.
“That’s an awful negative way to look at things, fellas.” You looked up at Natasha Romanoff standing in the door, a brown file in her hands that hopefully contained the mission reports of her team.
“Fella. Only one of us is an asshole.” You sighed, accepting the folder when she made her way across the room and handed it over.
You flicked through the files and found three reports and sighed. “Stark-“
“Emailed it to you. Like twenty minutes ago.” Natasha assured you and you nodded, content to let it go just this once that he hadn’t written it by hand.
“You doing anything Friday, Widow?” Matt asked, looking up from where he was hastily rewriting his report. Natasha looked between you both and you just rolled your eyes before returning back to Steve’s neatly written report.
“No, unless a mission comes in.” She told him, leaning against your desk and folding her arms. You looked up briefly but instead resumed reading when you caught her smirk.
“I know something you could do.” Matt looked up and you winced, already anticipating his next line. “Me.”
“I can see how you’d think that would be okay but I’d rather do the fucking space Raccoon then ever let you put a finger on me.” You could help the outburst of laughter as she picked up a red marker and circled something on his report. “There’s only one ‘b’ in Kiribati.”

You swirled the glass of Probably very expensive wine again and looked around to see which of your friends you could pass it off to. Red wine was awful and the more expensive it was, the worse it was.
“Think I might have a chance.” Joey whispered in your ear, eyes locked on Natasha who was laughing while dancing with Thor.
She looked stunning, an emerald dress looked as if it was part of her body, an extension of her that rippled like water. She was grinning as Thor dipped her again, her leg coming out of the split in her dress so delicately that you’d swear a new religion just to her.
“Never in a million years.” You told him, your eyes still on her smile as Thor smoothly passed her on to Bucky who laughed and joked while turning her in a slow sort of waltz.
“What makes you say that?” Joey asked and you looked away from the dazzling smile to find him loosening his tie, a cocky grin on his lips. It annoyed you that you knew he was going to make that smile disappear, that she was going to go back to the smirk she used to hide when someone upset her.
“Matt had the same idea just the other day.” You told him honestly but Joey only shrugged. God, you needed new friends. “Never mind, go for it. I’m sure she can’t wait for a chance at the guy who shot himself in the ass while holding his hun like a tv cop.”
“Shut up.” Joey elbowed you and then confidently made his way over, intercepting Bucky and Natasha, stealing both of their happy little smiles. It hurt just to watch but it hurt even more to see what he was saying, leering at her like a man who hadn’t seen a woman in years.
“I just think we have a lot to offer each other.” You could read his words from her but even worse was his expression, his eyes much lower than hers.
“My eyes are up here.” You could see her annoyance and propped your drink on the table next to you, already planning to intercept this train crash.
“Yeah but you’ve got more to offer than just your eyes.” She clenched her jaw just before you reached them and you paused when the much bigger, much more intimidating Steve landed a hand on Joey’s shoulder, clamping down hard.
“I’m going to have to ask you to walk away from the lady.”

“How are you feeling?”
You looked up blearily from your folded hands and blinked several times to focus in on Natasha at the end of your bed. She swam in and out of focus so you closed your eyes again.
“Vision is still swimming, head hurts, like a lot.” You told her honestly. You heard her sigh but had no time to think as you lurched and puked into a sick bag left by the nurse looking after you.
“I could’ve took the hit.” Natasha sighed and you opened your eyes but still couldn’t focus on her expression. “You shouldn’t have interfered.”
“You had already taken a hit.” You groaned, a hand held up to cover your eyes. She smiled sympathetically as a doctor shuffled into view.
“My man. Saving the damsel in distress.” Jake’s pay on the shoulder left you reeling, your vision blurred and your stomach twisted which made you lurch for the puke bag again. “I’ll patch up your shoulder now.”
Natasha walked away, a last look over her shoulder at you before Jake pulled your curtain closed, cutting you out of her sight.
It was a while before the ringing in your ears receded enough to zone in on the conversation. You winced when you listened to Jake and wondered why you surrounded yourself with idiots.
“It’s just we see each other a lot and you’re such a good patient. You don’t wine or complain and I like that in a woman.” Jake was telling Natasha and you didn’t need to see her face to know that awkward smile that would be taking over her lips.
“You like that I don’t complain?” She asked drily and you winced when Jake let out an affirmative noise. They were so beyond saving. Every last one of your friends.
“Yeah, some girls are ridiculously whiny.” You knew that all the women in his social circle would rip him a new asshole if he said that to him, so why did he think he could say it to Natasha?
“I can finish this.” Natasha sounded all business and you wished there was something you could do that would help but every movement made your head ache and your stomach twist.
“I still have several stitches to do.” Jake sounded confused, like he couldn’t figure out where he went wrong.
“I’d rather bleed out than finish this conversation.” You couldn’t blame her in the slightest. In fact you were considering shaking your head just so that the pain would drown out the sound of Jake’s voice.

“You miss being out in the field?” Steve asked as you handed out the mission brief. You could only laugh and shake your head, passing the next one to Bucky.
Everyone else chose to take their briefs on their StarkPad’s but the soldiers just preferred the traditional paper and ink for the sake of nostalgia so you always had at least two printed documents available.
“Not in the slightest, I get to pack you all out and then head home to bed until you all come back for the debrief and write up reports.” You chuckled. “I prefer the behind the scenes.”
“You might have the right idea.” Natasha huffed, resting on her folded arms. She was running on fumes at this point, having already run two back to back missions.
“Glad you see it my way, you’re on comm’s for this mission.” She gave a tired thumbs up without looking and you were pretty sure she drifted off to sleep.
After the briefing you hung back for any questions from your team or the accompanying Avengers. After a discussion with Layla about schematics of the building you both followed Natasha out.
“Might ask the Widow out for a drink.” Layla told you, her eyes roaming Natasha’s profile.
“Good fucking luck with that.” Matt scoffed, tapping away on his StarkPad. “Why would she date you?”
“She’s a little fruity, why else would she turn you all down?” Layla asked and you sighed, wishing you could just bang their heads together. “Oh maybe because they’re all asking the wrong person out.” You scoffed, pausing when you couldn’t find your phone in your pocket.
“What?” Layla and Matt echoed but you only shrugged, turning back the way you came.
“Never mind, shoot your shot. Have a good mission.” You left them there, gaping up the hallway as you went back in search of your phone.

“I basically saved your life so you kind of have to.” You stopped in the doorway, watching where Corey had Natasha stuck in conversation.
“I have to accept your offer for a date because you got a shot when I managed not to?” Natasha asked slowly, like she wanted Corey to hear how stupid he sounded.
“Basically, yeah.” Corey nodded, shrugging like there was no possible issue with it.
“I only almost got shot because I was busy turning down Layla and you think I’m in the mood to be asked out again?” Natasha asked and you wondered how the mission had gone so poorly that Natasha had almost gotten shot while on comm’s.
“Can you blame us? We all want some of that Black Widow bite.” Corey laughed and you pressed a hand to your face.
“We’ll as embarrassing as this is for everyone involved, I’m going to have to interrupt.” You spoke up and Corey turned to look at you with a glare. “Director Fury wants to speak with you.”
“Why?” Corey asked and you shrugged.
“Something about workplace harassment.” You shrugged and Corey looked puzzled, pushing past you out the door.
“The lights are on but nobody is home in the boys head.” Natasha told you and you laughed before shrugging.
“I surround myself with idiots just to make myself look better.” You told her and she laughed before sighing warily and narrowing her eyes.
“You’re not looking for a piece of the Black Widow bite?” She asked and you rolled your eyes.
“Nah, I got my eye on someone real.”

“What did you mean? Before, in the briefing room with Layla?” Natasha asked, watching where you stood in the doorway.
“You could hear me earlier?” You asked, eyebrows furrowed.
“Why are they asking the wrong person out?” She asked, more insistently. “Who is someone real?”
“They’ve all asked The Black Widow out, an overly-specialized and dehumanized character from what they’ve gathered in the media portrayal of you. No one has asked out Natasha.” You explained, feeling almost stupid now that you had said it out loud.
“How would you do it?” She asked, almost quietly. You’d never heard her sound quiet.
“I’d invite you to my apartment, I’d make you dinner and offer you a few drinks.” You told her, shrugging one shoulder. Her eyes shuttered and you watched that cold look take over.

A day was never a bad one when you got to see Natasha Romanoff.
It was just that the hours leading up to you reuniting with your girlfriend was, for lack of a better word, a complete and utter shit storm. Everything that could have gone wrong did and whilst you weren’t one to entirely believe in sod’s law, today certainly felt like a textbook example of it. It had started in the morning with a spilt coffee and traffic that made you late and continued into the afternoon with an unnecessarily moody boss and a meeting that overran by an hour. The university was truly testing you and it felt like you were failing miserably.
By the end of the day, you were more than ready to get home and crash. The only thing that stood between you and your goal was Manhattan’s evil rush hour, a busy subway and a headache that felt like it was about to swallow your entire frontal lobe Jonah-style. If Natasha had been in the office that day, it might not have been so bad; she drove like a maniac and could have got you to work on time and thanks to her spy skills, your coffee never would have spilt. Plus, she could have driven you home after and you wouldn’t have had to of suffered on the sweaty underground train system (that, somehow, seemed to be the entire backbone of New York City). Luckily for Nat, it was her first day off in weeks -- and besides, part of you didn’t even want her seeing you like this. She would absolutely still love you when you were a frazzled mess, but you much preferred her to have a slightly nicer image of you in her head. Perhaps one where you weren’t covered in coffee. And when the vein on your forehead was slightly less...present.
After battling your way through the F-Train - and almost crying when you saw that your building’s elevator was broken - you finally made it home.
The apartment was dark when you walked in, save for the fact the television was still playing. An old episode of Friends lit up the screen, the sound of canned laughter and out-dated 90s referenced filling the air. It was warm, which meant Natasha had been around at some point in the last hour. She was always in and out, though it was unlike her to leave when you were due to be home.
Sighing to yourself, you dumped your bags on the side and reached out a hand to turn on the kettle. You felt something soft against your leg; as usual, your cat had come to greet you. He was an old stray that you’d taken in last year - Nat had been a little hesitant at first, but she treated him as a son now.
“Hey, Stinky Steve,” you leant down to greet him.
(Steve - the Rogers kind, not the cat - had hated the name at first).
He let out a small purr as you stroked behind his ears. Of all things, at least he didn’t smell anymore - it had been a completely different story when you’d first found him in the back alley near your local bar. That, paired with the fact he had a stern, Captain America-esque expression, had earned him his name.
You jumped slightly when you felt a warm pair of arms wrap around your waist. Then, as though she had appeared out of thin air, Natasha rested her head on your shoulder and pulled you to her chest. She pressed a kiss to your jaw before spinning you around to face her.
“How many times have I told you not to sneak up on me?” you greeted her, a smile finally appearing on your face for the first time that day.
“Counting this one?” Nat quirked an eyebrow. “Eighty two, I think.”
You rolled your eyes, grin not faltering. “Where were you?”
“I was gonna sneak down to the subway station to meet you,” she explained. “I think a left a little too late, though.”
“Oh, baby,” you murmured. “I’m sorry. I kinda rushed home.”
Nat frowned. “Are you okay?”
She’d always been brilliant at picking up on physical cues. Natasha was intuitive by nature but it had only increased tenfold because of her training in her formative years. It meant that she could read you like a book - impressively so sometimes. It was definitely handy when you didn’t all that much feel like communicating on your bad days.
“Yeah, just a long day,” you replied. “I’m okay now, though.”
“Are you sure?” she asked. Her face held a concerned look, a hand running up and down your back. “What happened?”
“Just...one of those days, you know?” you said. “I was running late, I got coffee down myself, Michael was being insufferable about all of us attending those stupid CPR classes and it made me an hour late to my meeting so it overran.”
Natasha nodded sympathetically, pressing another soft kiss to your cheek.
“C’mon,” she tugged your hand, steering you towards the bedroom. “Go put on some comfy clothes. I’ll order pizza.”
“Thank you,” you softly smiled. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” she beamed back. “Your favourite hoodie should be in your drawer.”
“Thank youuuuuu!” you chimed once more and slipped inside the bedroom.
Ever since you’d moved into Natasha’s apartment, everything you owned had begun to smell of her - not just her perfume, but just her. It was funny, really, because you’d never actually officially moved in. Your belongings just slowly started to move from your flat over to hers as your relationship progressed and there came a point where you realised you were merely renting your own place, only to never actually go there. It was the same for a lot of your relationship, actually. It all just happened so naturally. There was never any pressure from either party, or any expectations. You just existed together and from it, came beautiful things.
After freshening up and changing into a hoodie and some sweats, you headed back out into the living room. Nat was sat on the couch, Stink Steve perched beside her. She’d turned the volume up on Friends now, green eyes half-focused on what was going on - they flickered over to you when you came in and she smiled.
“Which episode are you on?” you asked.
“I’m not sure,” she replied. “Monica is cleaning, Joey is eating and Ross is being annoying.”
“That could be any episode ever,” you shot back.
She held her arms open to you as you dropped onto the sofa beside her. It was second nature for her to reach out and hold you - specifically just in private, but sometimes in public. She’d been scared at first to show any displays of affection in front of other people; for fear of being judged, for fear of you becoming a target, for fear of it being blasted on social media. Now, however, Nat found herself caring a lot less. She loved you and she wanted people to know about it. That wasn’t to say that she suddenly started smothering you whenever you were out, but she had set her phone wallpaper to the two of you, and she was more than eager to hold your hand whenever you went out.
“The pizza is on the way,” she said.
You reached for the blanket on the back of the couch, pulling it over the two of you. Nat tucked it under her arms and pulled you closer; her lips were soft against your temple as she kissed it, tangling your hands in hers as she found it beneath the material. A moment later, Stinky Steve’s head popped out from underneath the blanket.
“How are you feeling now?” Nat asked softly.
You wanted to give her the truth: absolutely fucking unstoppable now that I’m with you. Perhaps that would have been a little too grandiose.
