Summary: it's your birthday and nat made something special.
Pairings: Natasha Romanoff x Fem reader
Nat pov
It's finally my girl's birthday. I've prepared everything for her. I practiced my cooking because I want to cook for her every time she was hungry. I bought all of her favorites. I designed the living room and put all the gifts there. I went to the kitchen table and prepare all of her favorite foods and Yelena, kate brought all of their gifts and made a cake for my girl. Also, clint and laura's kids brought all of their gifts and made cupcakes, macaroons, and muffins because my girl likes them. When I'm done with the kitchen, I went to our room to see if she was awake.

I woke up and turned to my side. I felt cold sheets in me and I realized nat's not there. I went back to sleep when I felt a pair of hands on my waist. I weakly smile when I saw my beautiful Natasha looking with lovingly green eyes and smirking at me. She got on top and spooned me. "happy" kisses my forehead, "birthday" kisses my nose, "to you" kisses my cheeks, "my sunshine" kisses my lips sweetly. Nat said and I pulled her by hugging her neck to deepen our kiss. We both pulled away and nat chuckled when she saw my morning face. "You look so gorgeous even when your hair is messy," she said laughing a little. I hid my face in the crook of her neck to hide my blush. "Aww let me see that cute face detka, let daddy see my cute little angel please". She softly pulled my face away from her neck and I pulled the blankets on my face, blushing hard. "Aww is my baby girl blushing? Can daddy see it baby girl please" She laughed and she hold my hand and pulled me away from the blanket. "I'm not cute and I'm not blushing," I said pouting at her. She laughed and kissed both of my cheeks and pulled me up to sit. "Come on you need to eat before we start our day," she said while cupping my face.
I went to the bathroom and took a shower, brushed my hair, brushed my teeth, and did simple makeup. I wore a dress with small roses on them and mid heels with little flowers around them. I went downstairs and noticed that nat isn't there. She wasn't in the living room, kitchen and office. I noticed that there were balloons on the walls signaling to go outside. I went outside and...
Nat's pov
Im waiting for my beautiful girl to surprise her. Yelena and kate hid together at the side of the table. Clint and Laura hid at the opposite sides of the table with their party popper while their kids hid in the side bushes. I hid at the side of the door. When my girl opened the door.

"SURPRISE". Y/n looks at them trying not to tear up because she never experienced this kind of birthday before. Y/n hugged and kissed nat on the lips. Y/n thanked nat and thanked everyone for their preparation. Everyone was in awe when they saw them kissing except for Yelena and Clint. "Uhm we're still here" "get a room," Clint and Yelena said. Everyone laughed.
Nat pov
When I saw her in that dress, she looks so beautiful. I admired her for a minute when she pulled me for a hug and kissed me on the lips. She thanked me with a smile that I love so much but got interrupted by Yelena and Clint. "I was admiring her, idiots," I said. Y/n hugged everyone and thanked them. Clint's kids went to y/n to greet her too, of course, y/n hugged and kissed their foreheads. Clint's kids are very close to y/n because they said she's the best aunt ever. When they first met her they were excited because when I brought my ex with me a few years ago, my ex will teach them bad stuff like hit your brother in the face or place the pencil down the stairs so we can prank your father and so many stuff. When I found out about it, I broke up with her. She was crying and apologizing to me, begging for me to have a chance but I kicked her out of my place and she didn't apologize to the kids and I never saw her again. It was a relief. But for y/n, they were nervous about it because of the trauma my ex brought to them but I talked to them first. I told them that my new girlfriend is sweet, loving, and far much different from my ex. They laughed a little and said yes. It was the best day when I brought her to clint's house. Y/n gets to do arts and crafts with Lila, play legos with Nathaniel, teach cooper guitar, and even help Laura in the kitchen which Laura refused at first but lets her cook anyways. Y/n would teach them how to solve their homework if their parents are busy with work and sometimes she would even babysit them. That's the thing I love about her, she always takes care of everyone I love even sometimes when she is busy she would still makes up time for them.
3rd pov
They all sang y/n happy birthday and Yelena is recording it. Yelena bought a recorder when she was free for the first time in the red room. She bought it because she wanted to capture every happy moment she had in her life. She will always pack it every time except when she goes on missions. When she is crying and nat isn't there or y/n or kate, she would watch them on her laptop just to cheer herself up. Kate finds it cute. Nat finds it annoying because Yelena would zoom it to nats face just to annoy her and even when y/n and nat are having a moment of fluffiness she would just pop out of nowhere and film them.
The kids ate the cake, played games, and even tried to hide Yelena's camera. Clint and laura talked to nat and y/n about marriages and family planning if they want to get married and have kids one day. But nat and y/n laugh at it but deep inside they wanted to spend their life with one another. However, kate and Yelena planned on putting whipped cream on nat and y/n's faces since they forgot to do it when y/n's was blowing the candles. They smushed the paper plate with whipped cream into their faces and nat chases Yelena all around while y/n and kate are laughing helping y/n to take off some whipped cream on her face. The kids were laughing too and Nathaniel was filming all of it. Clint and laura laughed too because of the two. After that, they cleaned their faces and change clothes. Yelena washed the dishes as a form of a little punishment from nat. Kate helped clean the mess on the table and also helped Yelena. Clint and laura helped too but the kids were sleepy and tired so they decided to just go home. When Yelena and kate are done doing the dishes they went to say goodbye to y/n and nat. Nat was still pissed but Yelena apologize for it so they just forget about everything and kate and Yelena went straight home.
Y/n pov
I hugged nat from behind and told her "thank you for the best birthday, my love". Nat turned around and picked up y/n. "anything for my best girl". Y/n blushes at it and hid in nat's boobs. Nat just laughed at her cuteness. "aww is my girl blushing again?" y/n just hid in nat's neck and blushes even more. "im not blushing and put me down please?" nat refuses so she went into their bedroom and started tickling y/n. Y/n laughs and starts to get away from nat. Her face turned red from exhaustion and pants. Nat spooned y/n and starts giving little kisses on her neck. Y/n moaned a little but nat heard it and just smirks. "I heard that, do you want to play my darling?" nat smirks and pinned y/n in the mattress. She started to give kisses on y/n neck but only to y/n push her a little. "im tired natty I want to sleep". Nat just listens to y/n since they are both tired so they just cuddled until y/n is asleep. "I love u so much, my love. I need you like a heart needs a beat. I love you for all that you are, all that you have been, and all that you will be. To the world, you may be one person, but to me, you are the world. Whatever happens tomorrow or for the rest of my life, I'm happy now because I love you. Sweet dreams my love" after that little heartwarming speech nat went to sleep cuddling y/n.

As soon as you started your relationship with Natasha, you knew that it wasn't going to be easy. Her very closed-off self was certainly going to be something that would bring up fights but for you, it was always worth it.
It took a few months for her to start telling you when something bothered her or when she needed help, she wasn't used to telling her problems to someone else so, for the first few months she kept all of her issues and insecurities to herself. She didn't like burdening you, so she told you only the good things about her day. How well her missions had gone, how happy she felt about new weapons, how hard she laughed at some prank she pulled on Clint, that sort of thing.
It took another few months for you to learn about her nightmares. She went to your room one night when she couldn't sleep and thought sleeping next to you would help her, which it did but, the first night with you was still tainted with a nightmare, that night she also realized that you were the only one that could calm her after them. You started to hold her in your arms, brush your fingers gently through her hair, drawing soft random patterns on her back, successfully bringing some very much-needed sleep. She also realized that as long as you were there with her, her nightmares were manageable and she could continue sleeping after them.
That's how she started to open up about things, about the feelings she still gets brought up by some missions, the memories that come to the surface about the training she had endured, and the traumas she still had. There were still things she wouldn't tell you about. She told you about the red room, she told you about what they did to her and the ceremony she had to go through, the things she had done and while most of the time you could comfort her, there were times when she needed something else, something she only did when she was to overwhelmed.
She didn't like that this still brought her comfort, that something that was not meant to bring her that feeling, did. She and all the other widows had been forced to go through ballet classes, it helped their skills and it helped to see who was strong enough to endure the kind of training they would have. It was never a good memory for Natasha but, it was a habit that she couldn't get rid of, no matter how hard she tried.
One night you, Natasha, and Wanda got sent on a mission that involved children. It did not go well, out of 10 kids that you saw, three were the ones you actually got to save, and the loss of the others weighed heavy on the three of you, especially on Natasha. It brought memories of her and her sister having to go back to the red room after their mission in Ohio.
You walked to your shared bedroom and went to take a shower, you needed something to relieve the pain that, despite having been a physically difficult mission, it wasn't the pain you were trying to get rid of, it was the emotional one. You had held in your arms one of the kids that didn't make it, you hold him until the backup arrived.
After you, Natasha went to the bathroom to take a shower. Neither of you was ready to talk about what had happened, you and she were no strangers to the conditions you had found the kids in so, it was to be expected that your minds were flooded with memories of your own experiences.
You both went to bed immediately meeting in the middle in desperate need of some comfort. Your arms instantly held her while her head rested just above your heart. It's a sound that was always successful in calming her. It took some time but, eventually, you both managed to fall asleep.
A few hours later Natasha woke up, her dreams were completely tainted by the memories of her childhood. She needed to do something else than try to go back to sleep to see those memories again so she carefully got up from the bed, trying not to disturb you, and went to the only place she could think of.
About an hour later you woke up too, you jolted out of the bed trying to catch your breath, the images of the boy you held in your arms were stuck in your mind, and your dreams kept showing them. You turn your head to see if you had woken your girlfriend but, you noticed she wasn't there. You looked around in your room but, she was nowhere to be found. You went to look for her outside but, you couldn't find her, the base was just too big to find her on your own so, you asked FRIDAY.
"FRIDAY where is Natasha?" You asked once you got back to the room to find a hoodie to put on.
"Miss Romanoff is in the gym on the fourth floor, would you like me to guide you there?" As far as you knew, the fourth floor didn't have a gym so, you accepted the AI's help to get there.
You stood just out of Natasha's sight, you understood now how affected she was about the mission. You knew it had been a very tough one but, you could see how bad it was.
She was skillfully dancing what looked like a very rehearsed choreography. This must be what she was taught in the red room, you thought. You could see the pain in her face and the emotion in every movement. You were going to ask her if she needed something but, you didn't want to interrupt her, if she was here it was because it helped her somehow, you decided it was best to accompany her.
You could've copied her easily, your training consisted in imitating others for the sake of a deep undercover mission. You could imitate anyone, from the way they talked to the way their eyebrows moved when they did but, this time you decided to complement her instead of copying her.
You walked behind her, she had her eyes trained on you the moment she could see you in the mirror in front of her, she watched you waiting for you to say something, to ask her to go back to bed, but she didn't think you'd understand why she was doing something she had told you had once hurt her.
She was surprised when instead of talking, you stood behind her with an encouraging look on your face. She hesitated a little before she resumed the dance she was previously doing, you started to move behind her, following her footsteps without copying her. After a few minutes, the two of you moved as if you were one. Anyone who looked at you now would think that you were long-time dance partners based on how easily you moved around each other.
Natasha's heart swells at your actions, you understood what she was doing, you didn't want to stop her, you just wanted to be there for her, with her, she understood your silent way of telling her that you loved her and that you listened to her. She loved you just as much and she couldn't be more grateful that you were there to support her.
You started doing that whenever she got too frustrated and overwhelmed, it became your way of saying I love you to each other, a way of reassuring her that no matter what happened, you were there for her, that she was no longer alone.
It was Tuesday. Which means her letter was here. Which means she'd get to hear her voice and 'see' her again. She missed her, she missed her more than she'd like to admit. She'd never admit to how much she missed her, she'd profusely deny it. Even if it was true.
Skipping, yes skipping, one of the world's deadliest assassins and she was skipping. She opened the pale blue mailbox and saw a a letter. Grinning, she grabbed the envelope and looked at the front. Seeing her name and her lover's.
Attempting, and failing, to keep her excitement contained she walks back to the house. It's a cute little modern cottage, she and Nat had designed it together. Personalized to their needs and desires.
The world's deadly assassin squealed in excitement as she carefully opened the sealed envelope. "Natty Nat Nat Nat," she repeated, incredibly excited.
"To my detka," she blushed at this petname, continuing to read her lover's scratchy but somehow also neat handwriting.
"I miss you so much. I wish I could turn back the clock, to the moment we first met. When you fell for me. Walking away, looking fine as hell, drinking your coffee. Clumsy as always, my sweet girl, you tripped. Falling at my feet. I still have that shirt, I'm currently wearing it. Enjoying the scent of the coffee mixing with your perfume. But it's nothing compared to being in your presence, in your arms. Hell, even within a mile of you."
Someone knocked at her door, but she ignored it, continuing to read the love letter.
"I hope that someday soon I can be in the same room with you, kissing your soft lips. I hope that you're not leaving the stove on, it'd be tragic if I came home to a pile of ashes. I know we both adore fire, (though not as much as I adore you) but a home is important. As are you. I'm holding you close to my heart, I can't wait to make you mine someday. Your necklace lives around my neck, I carry a reminder of you with me everywhere."
Continuing to ignore the knocks, she gently wraps her fingers around her necklace. Nat had given her a necklace, a half of a heart, silver. Nat had a matching one. The two of you had broken hearts, until you were whole and together again. There was a word engraved on each necklace. Her's said "Sincerely," and Nat's said, "Yours". She claimed that they were sappy, but not-so-secretly loved them. Nat knew it too.
"I have to go, some dumbass lit their lunch on fire. I love you so much detka, and I can't wait to be with you once more.
Sincerely yours,
Natasha"
One of the world's deadliest assassins, hugs the letter close to her chest. A tear rolling down her cheek.
"I miss you Natty,"
"I miss you too detka."
She whirled around, only to see her love in person. She flew into Nat's open arms.
"Natty!" She hugged her tight, never wanting to let go.
Hugging the understandably clingy girl back, she laughed a bit.
"Hey there, puppy. I take it that you liked my letter?"
The girl eagerly nodded, another tear rolling down her cheek, "It was beautiful."
Nat smiled down at her, bringing her hand up to the girl's cheek, gently swiping her tears away. "Not as beautiful as you, detka."
The girl blushed, looking up at her lover.
"I love you Natty,"
"I love you too, darling."
"Hey, darling?"
"Yes, Natty?"
"Answer the door next time."
"No." She grinned, looking up at Nat.

Some of the things you loved doing with Natasha were the things she wasn’t the best at or the most knowledgeable in. There was no doubting the fact that Natasha was a very intelligent and impressive woman; well versed in politics, history, culture, the arts. But there was something that one couldn’t replace with readings: a childhood.
You could remember when Natasha confided in you about her past, and you remembered feeling ridiculous because even though you were crying, she wasn’t. And it was her story, her life. Though, you supposed that just meant she had more experience dealing with it.
Still, from that day forward, you had made a silent promise to yourself that you would teach her how to enjoy some of the more childish things. And there was no better time for that than Halloween. Of course, Halloween could be a mature Holiday, the Starks always threw a massive party, and there was drinking, and dancing, and everything you would expect from a party thrown by Tony Stark, but you wanted to show Natasha the things you had done as a kid on Halloween.
You had the whole day planned out. You had started with pumpkin spice lattes and pumpkin shaped pancakes for breakfast, you had even put chocolate chips in the shape of the eyes and mouth for a jack-o-lantern. Then you sat down to watch Halloween movies. When you told Natasha that she had originally thought you meant Horror movies, imagine her surprise when you put on Ghostbusters and Scooby-Doo instead of American Psycho.
You had finished your movie marathon and you had two pumpkins on the kitchen island. “Okay! So, do you know how to carve a pumpkin?” You asked her as you got out two kitchen knives.
“I think so,” Natasha replied, watching you with amusement written across her features.
“Oh,” you nodded a bit and set a knife on the counter in front of her.
“Why don’t you teach me anyway,” she suggested, having noticed that you deflated a little bit.
You perked up and nodded. “Okay! First you want to cut a hole in the top, not too big because you want to have plenty of space for your design, but you still want to be able to get your hand in comfortably,”
You cut a hole in the top of your pumpkin and then Natasha does the same, smiling at you all the while. “And now?” She asked as she set the knife down, already knowing the next step but wanting to hear your excitement as you explained it to her.
“Now comes the fun part! The guts,” You told her. You grabbed two pairs of latex gloves (you found a box of them in your laundry room and thought it best not to ask questions you may not like the answer to) and two large spoons. “You wanna scrape the insides with the spoons to loosen it all up, and then you want to pull it all out as best as you can. One bowl is for seeds,” you pointed at one of the two large mixing bowls in front of you, “the other is for the rest.”
She nodded as she took the top off of the pumpkin. She then slipped on the gloves and picked up the spoon, beginning your task. You grabbed your phone and connected it to your bluetooth speaker as she worked, playing your Halloween playlist before setting it aside and joining her in pulling out the guts.
“Why are we separating the seeds again, love?” Natasha asked as she dumped a handful of the seeds into the appropriate bowl in front of you.
“You stick some melted butter in that bowl, some salt, and I like to add a bit of sugar too, then you put it on a baking sheet in the oven for like, half an hour to an hour, and then we can snack on them,” you explained as you did the same as her, depositing a good amount of seeds into the bowl and smiling over at her.
She got a bit of a mischievous look on her face as she turned to you. “Baby, you’ve got a little something right…” she had her hand in a fist except for one finger as she raised it to your face, then she smirked devilishly and opened her hand to reveal a glob of pumpkin guts which she then smeared across your cheek, “there,” she completed her sentence.
Your mouth dropped open as you felt the cold, orange goop on your skin, offended and yet amused. “Romanoff!” You huffed, wiping it off with your gloved hand which just left a smear of orange on your cheek from your own pumpkin.
She laughed at your predicament, the one that she had put you in, and grabbed a paper towel, wiping off any pumpkin residue and then pressing a kiss onto your newly cleaned cheek. “Nat to the rescue,”
“Nat caused the problem,” you muttered as you turned back to your problem, your lips in a pout as you gave her a playful glare. You finished scooping out your pumpkin and she just watched, already finished but not wanting to move on to the next step without you.
“What’s next, my dear?” She asked like you were all buddy-buddy and she hadn’t just betrayed you with her pumpkin smearing ways. You looked over and the sweet smile on her face was too damn beautiful to be mad at.
Grumbling, you moved away from your pumpkin and slipped off your gloves, tossing them into the garbage can and watching as Natasha threw her pair in perfectly without even moving. You then opened a drawer and pulled out two sharpies. “Now we have to plan what we want to carve out, draw it before you cut it out,” you instructed her. “Since it’s your first time, you might want to go with something simple,” you added as a warning.
She shrugged as she took the marker. “Probably a smart idea, but that wouldn’t be very impressive, now would it?” She winked at you.
As if she needed to be any more impressive than she already was.
“Well, it’s not a competition, but have at it,” you said as you approached your own pumpkin. Taking in the size and shape, you thought of what you might want to do, tapping the end of your sharpie against your chin. Meanwhile, Natasha had moved her pumpkin to the other side of the counter and had already started drawing, but was keeping it a surprise from you.
“You know, it’s not good to have secrets in a relationship,” you mused thoughtfully as you brought the tip of your sharpie to the skin of the pumpkin. You had selected the best side and now it was time for your design.
“I just want to surprise you,” Natasha replied with a chuckle, capping her marker and picking up her knife once again, seemingly ready to continue with her design.
“Well then I will be surprising you too!” You stated, also setting down your marker and picking up the knife. You were very careful with your design, not wanting to ruin it. And a silence fell between the two of you as you both worked, the only thing that permeated the air was the sound of Michael Jackon’s Thriller as it played through your speaker.
“Done!” You and Natasha declared at the same time, causing you both to smile.
“Turn around the pumpkins on a count of three?” You asked as you set your knife down and lay your hands on the cold surface of your carved pumpkin.
Natasha nodded. “Sure, 1…”
“2…” you continued, the anticipating building
“3!” You both said it in unison and spun your pumpkins around.
Her design was not the simple kind you had suggested to her. It was a beautiful spider's web, the spaces in between the webbing had been cut out and you could only imagine how cool it would look when you added the candle. Yours wasn’t a classic design either, it was a crescent moon on the bottom right corner with one large star and one smaller one on the face of it as well.
“Yours looks great, my dear,” Natasha told you, walking over and pressing a kiss onto your temple. “What’s next?” She asked.
You smiled, admiring her pumpkin for a second longer before looking over at her. “We stick the seeds in the oven and put on our costumes,” you informed her, excited to show her what you had picked.
So that’s what you did. Since you had two pumpkins you had needed a second baking sheet for all of the seeds, but soon enough they were in the oven. Natasha promised that any seeds that the two of you couldn’t eat she would bring to the Avengers who would devour them in seconds.
“You get changed in our room, I’ll get changed in the guest room,” you told her, wiping off your hands of any residual pumpkin goop.
She raised an eyebrow. “I’ve seen you naked before, I think we can change in the same room,” Natasha pointed out, doing the same and walking up to you.
But you skirted out of her grasp and shook your head. “Nope! I want to surprise you!” You insisted, walking backwards as you headed towards the guest room, careful not to run into any walls.
Natasha shook her head, her arms crossed over her chest. “What happened to not keeping secrets in a relationship?” She teased, referencing your earlier statement.
You just stuck your tongue out at her and turned, jogging to the guest bedroom. You already stashed your costume in the closet in a plastic bag so you pulled it down and lay everything out on the bed. Since you weren’t actually going out in the costume, it didn’t need to have shoes or be warm at all, which was good because your costume had neither of those things.
It was tight black shorts and a matching black t-shirt with a low V-neckline. You had originally been a bit unsure, but you thought it was fitting as a sort-of mimic to Natasha’s Black Widow costume. Around your hips was a belt with a holster for a fake gun on one side and two sets of fake knives on the other. You thought you looked pretty badass as well as smoking hot, you were sure Natasha was going to love it.
But as you walked into the kitchen to check on how the seeds were doing in the oven, you realized you were way outmatched when it came to a sexy costume. Jessica. Rabbit. Your beautiful girlfriend was wearing the signature red sequined dress and long purple gloves, her crimson hair styled to match the character’s as best as she could, her eyelids adorned with purple and her lips painted red.
She had been looking down at her phone but looked up when she heard you walk in, setting the device on the counter. “Love, you look so cute,” she told you, walking over and wrapping her arms around your waist.
“Cute?” You replied with a frown, placing your hands on her shoulders and stepping back so she was forced away from you a bit, allowing you to look at her properly. “I was going for dangerously sexy, not cute,” you informed her, dragging back your arms to cross them over your chest.
“Dangerous? You?” Natasha asked with a smirk, she loved the fire you had in you, and she loved when you let it show.
“Yes! And sexy,” you repeated that part too, that was really the most important part.
“Well, you’re always sexy,” she informed you, stepping towards you again and placing one of her hands on your hips and one of her hands on your face, gently cupping your cheek as she tugged you close and kissed you. Once you broke away she smiled. “You’re just also adorable.”
You huffed and got out of her grasp, crossing your arms once again and narrowing your eyes as you glared at her. “Natasha!” You said, almost in a scolding tone.
She held her hands up in surrender. “I can’t help it, baby, I’m sorry,” she said, lying straight to your face.
“No you’re not.” You replied.
She shrugged. “No, I’m not.” She agreed with a smile.
You rolled your eyes but you couldn’t help that her smile was contagious and made you want to smile as well. “Ugh, I hate you, you’re the worst,” you stated.
She leaned over and pressed a kiss onto the corner of your lips. “Come on, why don’t you show me some more of those scooby-doo movies?” She suggested.
“We can’t, we have to be on alert for trick-or-treaters,” you pointed out.
She shrugged. “Not an issue. I put out a bowl with a note that says ‘please take one’,” she told you.
You only groaned. “Kids never take just one,” you informed her, shaking your head.
Her grin only got wider as she pulled out an unopened bag of assorted fun-size chocolates. “I know. All the kids will think other kids got to it first,” she told you.
Your eyes lit up and you immediately grabbed the bag from her, ripping it open and pulling out your favourite one. “I love you,” you said.
“I thought I was the worst?” She teased as she led you over to the couch so you could watch more movies together.
You nodded. “Oh you are,” you told her, plopping down onto the couch and leaning into her as she sat next to you. “But I love you anyway.”
She laughed softly and shook her head, adjusting her dress as she put on a movie. She kissed your temple. “Happy Halloween, my love.”
You smiled. “Happy Halloween.”

When Natasha returned from Vormir and was brought back to the land of the living, at first her body’s drop in temperature was not noticeable. However, as time went by, her coldness was more and more noticeable — to her, not to her team, as she was an expert spy and when she wanted to hide something, one wouldn’t uncover it unless she wanted you to.
Well, that goes for everyone except the literal robot, who was immune to secrecy tactics.
The story is set on a regular evening at the Avengers tower. The team was sitting in the living room, all engaged in their own conversations or the news on the television. Natasha, in particular, was reminiscing with Clint about their days in the field as S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. The redhead was subtly rubbing at her arms in the smallest of attempts to generate heat. It was big enough to get the warmth going and small enough that she could dismiss it as a subconscious, self-soothing gesture.
“Conducting bodily scans. Initiating now.”
The conversations paused at the interruption from the robotic A.I, F.R.I.D.A.Y.
“What’s that?” Clint asked, sending Tony a suspicious glance.
“FRIDAY is programmed to conduct random scans at random times — it’s just to make sure that she’s still working,” he explained, and everyone accepted this explanation. They patiently waited for F.R.I.D.A.Y. to finish her scans, so as to avoid another interruption.
“Scans complete. Everyone is operating as usual. Although, it appears that Mr. Rogers has an itch on his leg and Ms. Romanoff is cold.”
Everyone glanced at Steve, who nodded, and sheepishly itched his knee. Then, they turned to Natasha, who shook her head ‘no’. “Not cold,” she lied easily.
Tony’s eyebrows furrowed. “FRIDAY, can you scan again?” He asked.
F.R.I.D.A.Y. did as told and, a couple seconds later, reported that Natasha had been exhibiting signs of being cold since her return from Vormir.
“Nat?” Clint questioned with raised eyebrows.
Natasha bit her lip. Betrayed by the robot, great. “FRIDAY is accurate,” is all she said.
“Do you have a cold?” Clint immediately asked and, went to put the back of his hand against his friend’s forehead, but thought better of it and dropped his arm to his side.
“Ms. Romanoff has not been exhibiting signs of the common cold,” F.R.I.D.A.Y cut in just as Natasha parted her lips to answer.
Natasha frowned and looked at Tony. “Can you shut her off?” She asked, with a slight hiss.
Tony gave a small sigh. “FRIDAY, activate sleep mode,” he commanded.
There was a series of beeps until F.R.I.D.A.Y’a voice ceased. Natasha let out a small breath of relief and leaned back against the couch cushions.
“Nat, why didn’t you tell us?” Steve asked, leaning forward with his “serious captain” look on display.
Natasha could lie, but she decided not to. They worked so hard to bring her back, so they deserved to know. “I didn’t want to unnecessarily worry you. I don’t think it’s that big of a deal,” she answered, shrugging.
“It is to us,” Bruce countered softly.
At Natasha’s confused look, Sam added on, a smile on his face, “We’re your family, Romanoff. We care about you. When you’re cold, especially if it’s a result from literally dying, we worry.”
Natasha thought for a moment and then gave in with a smile. She nodded, believing it. It had taken her awhile to fully recognize the love her team had for her after all she had endured, and this was just one of the rings of the ladder to it.
“I’ll get you a blanket,” Bucky announced, standing up as he did so.
“Come here,” Clint said, wrapping an arm around his partner in time.
“Oh my god,” Natasha said through her laugh, still smiling. Before, she would reject this, because she was a superspy, not a cuddle buddy . . . Maybe it was because of her return from death. Or it was because of her family. Probably both! But she knew that cuddling, letting her family take care of her . . . That didn’t make her any less of a badass. They knew it, too.
Bucky returned and wrapped Natasha tight in the blanket, leaving nothing for Clint. Under any other circumstance he wouldn’t been annoyed at the brunette, but he approved of it, this time.
“Tell us if you get colder, alright?” Steve said.
At Natasha’s nod, the family resumed their conversations. The room soon filled with laughter and pure, blissful glee.
In the time to come, every Avenger made sure that Natasha wasn’t cold. A blanket, a cuddle, a sweater, the heat turned on, everything.

Birthday Suit
Warning: Use of the pet name Sunflower,
Match: Natasha Romanoff x Reader
Genre: Fluff
A/N: So this one was fun. I hate my birthday but this actually was cute. I’m trying a new way of presenting the dialogue. aesthetically it looks better but I’m not sure how it reads. I've seen other authors do the dialogue on completely seperate lines so just lmk if this is good.
Word Count: ~2.5 k
Summary: It’s Natasha's birthday, and despite her acting like she hates it you shower her with love.
The smell of cooking cake fills the compound. Even from the workshop, where you are, the sweet scent permeates the air. You have been baking for long enough to know what that smell means, the cake is almost done.
You check the clock on the wall. 2:44. Nat would be home at 5.
“Shit. I need to get this done,”
You shake your head and set down your wire cutters. The list of everything you need to get done before she arrives rolls through your mind.
It was her birthday. She didn’t know her actual birthday so years ago she made one up. The chosen date was a closely guarded secret she only shared with those she trusted most. For the most part the assassin didn’t even celebrate. When you had asked a week prior what she wanted to do she had brushed you off claiming,
“I don’t really care. As long as I get to be with my love.”
She had kissed you, hoping the kiss would fog your mind from any further planning. Unfortunately for her you were a big schemer, always going as big as you could for your friend’s birthdays.
You walked out of the workshop, making one last longing look at her unfinished gift on your messy work table. No one was around today. The one Saturday everyone had off a month. Natasha had gone shopping with Wanda, a plan conncocted to give you plenty of time to get everything ready.
“Friday do you mind turing the oven off?”
you asked the A.I. as you headed down the hallway.
“Of course Agent Y/L/N,”
entering the kitchen you picked up a discarded list of everything that needed to be done. Two items were crossed off “Bake the cake, movie fort.” The unmarked items looked at you teasingly and you felt anxiety rise in your chest. What if you didn’t get everything done and this birthday made Natasha hate birthdays even more? You shook your head trying to chase off the thoughts and went to the oven.
“One perfectly baked chocolate cake coming up,”
grabbing an oven mitt you pulled the cake out of the oven and placed it on the counter. Carefully you coerced the cake from the pan and set it on the cooling rack.
Back when Wanda and you ventured into the baking realm you had begged Tony to put in a floor to ceiling blast chiller. The kind that was always on baking competitions. He reluctantly agreed, with the price of always having to give him a taste of your creations. The freezer was immensely helpful in tight circumstances. You were more than grateful for it now.
You set your cake into the freezer and went to the pantry to pull out all the ingredients you needed for icing. You poured the powdered sugar and placed the butter into the bowl. When you turned on the mixer a cloud of sugary powder exploded in the kitchen. You blinked and licked your lips. Bringing a hand up to wipe your face, you laughed hard. Sugar covered the entire counter and floor beneath you, not to mention your already grease stained clothes.
“Wow, is my little sibling doing coke in here? And without me!”
a snarky voice sounded from across the room. You opened your eyes and squinted at your older brother with a scrunched nose.
“Can it Tony,”
You growled, grabbing a towel and wiping yourself off the counter. Tony laughed at you and opened the freezer to look at what sweet treats awaited him tonight.
“A cake? Are we celebrating?”
He laughed and made a teasing face. You rolled your eyes and called out to Friday.
“Can you order me four containers of icing from the store to be delivered?”
“You got it!”
her chipper accented voice came over the audio. You threw the towel in the sink and landed a punch in Tony’s arm as you left to go change.
“You better not eat any of that cake until Nat has had at least one slice. I know where you keep those rare magic cards you think no one knows about and I will not hesitate to cut them all in half,”
He looked at you in shock. Whether it was because you knew about the secret stash or because you would dare cut them you weren’t sure. The only way to get Tony mad was to go for something he couldn’t replace with money.
“YOU WOULDN'T FUCKING DARE,”
You run away as he climbs out of his chair and chases after you. You run into your room and lay on the door to push back a Tony who was only a few steps behind you. When you finally force the door into the frame you turn the lock and fall to the floor laughing.
Angry mumbling came from the other side. Tony pounded on the door twice before, defeated. walking away. After catching your breath you pulled your sugar stained clothes off and changed into the outfit you’d set aside that morning.
“Y/N the man just arrived with the icing,”
Friday called out to your room and you nodded.
“Thank you Friday. Have him set the bags in the kitchen,”
Friday hummed in agreement. You stood up and looked in the mirror checking yourself out. When you were satisfied with the look you unlocked the door and turned to the right. You really needed to finish Natasha’s present. You wouldn’t even have time to test it properly. You really hoped the phrase “it’s the thought that counts,” was true. Her gift could be something that got you endless kisses or a real crash and burn.
Making it to the lab you set your hand on your head and groaned. You really hoped it worked. It was so pretty. You grabbed the wrapping paper and box and set it in with a kiss.
“Natty, I hope you like it,”
The gift finished the fort built, and cake baked, there was only one thing left to do, ice the damn cake. You could bake sure, but only Wanda ever mastered the art of making it look beautiful.
When you made it to the kitchen Tony was nowhere in sight and a plastic bag with what you assumed was icing was set on the counter. You pulled out a butter knife and dug in, hoping this looked somewhat edible. Wanda was the one who was skilled at decorating. You could make the elaborate pastry chef treats, but you could never handle the finer details of making it look pretty.
~
You were in the workshop when Friday alerted you that Wanda and Natasha were home. A feeling similar to anxiety or excitement fluttered in your chest. This was the first time you’d celebrated her birthday with your girlfriend. You wanted her to like birthdays again. To feel as special and loved as you can pour out for her.
“Thank you Friday. Please tell them I’m in the workshop and will be heading to the game room shortly,”
You set down the gauntlet you’d been fixing while waiting for them and brushed off your outfit. Your eyes searched over the shirt for stains, and when you were satisfied you were clean you headed to your “party”.
Wanda was the first to come in. She threw her hands to her face and “oood” and “aweeed” over the spread you had out.
“Y/N your cake! it’s…. adorable,”
you punched her in the shoulder with a frown. She fell over laughing.
“I TRIED! and I’m sure it tastes amazing.”
you crossed your arms and pouted. She sat back up still laughing and patted your back.
“She’ll love it Y/N. Even if it had ‘fuck you Nat’ written on top she’d love it,”
you smiled at the complement and stopped pouting. You were explaining the technology behind Nat’s present when the woman of the hour finally walked in.
“What is all this? Are y’all having a party? and didn’t invite me,”
she sat down next to you intertwining your fingers with hers and kissing your shoulder. You smiled as the excitement anxiety mix returned.
“Actually…. it’s for you,”
You smiled and kissed her hands. She looked genuinely surprised. You really hoped the feeling was happy excitement.
“oh- Y/N y-you remembered? and you didn’t have to do any of this. I thought I told you i didn’t care to celebrate,”
you felt Wanda stand up to leave with a pat on your shoulder. You smiled up at her and turned back to Natasha.
“I know I know, but I wanted to do something special. You love me so well and work so hard all the time. You deserve a day that’s unapologetically about you,”
You knew if Natasha didn’t have such complete control of her emotions she would be crying. The agape mouth gave that away. You smiled and leaned forward pulling her into a deep, intimate kiss. Feeling her smile against your lips you pulled away and leaned your forehead against hers.
“I love you Natashka. I will do anything to make you feel like Queen of the world,”
with that she started crying. You frowned and wiped away the tears.
“I really hope those are happy tears,”
she nodded quickly and smiled, sniffling a little.
“Very very happy tears. happy ‘I don’t know what on Earth i did to deserve you’ tears,”
“It is I who does not deserve you. The Great Black Widow. I’m just here to make you smile, it’s my life goal,”
you bowed as much as you could sitting down. Placing a peck on her lips you turned back to the presents and pointed.
“Which one should we open first?”
she pondered and then picked up a small box. Nimble fingers unwrapped the box and pulled out a Ring. You had managed to get her size weeks earlier fitting one of your own on her finger when hanging out. She looked at the little silver band with a carved sunflower at the head. A smile bloomed across her face and she hugged you.
“Oh my goodness Y/N, it’s so pretty…,”
she slid it onto her fingers, finding the one it fit best and stared at it. You hugged her shoulder and kissed her cheek.
“Well, you are my sunflower. It’s just a reminder when we are away,”
Her eyes lit up at the nickname. It wasn’t as common for you to use it as baby or sweetheart, but sunflower had always been her favourite.
She looked at the other boxes realising they were also for her. You picked up the next box, a medium sized one and handed it to her. You were saving the biggest for last.
She was just in awe and set it down before unwrapping it. Her hands snaked around your waist and pulled you flush to her. Her soft lips pressed kisses to your jaw and she set her head on your shoulder.
“Thank you so much Y/N, I- no one has done something like this for me ever,”
She hugged you tight again and then let go picking back up the present. You nodded and kissed her head. Pushing some hair out of her face you stroked her hair softly. Her hands once again unwrapped the gift. She squeaked at the sight of the book underneath the paper.
Natasha never got to read much on her own accord growing up. The red room picked out books for her education but never anything she would actually enjoy. Long ago Natasha had told you the first book she read after getting out of the red room was Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and since then she adored the book. You had found, and paid for with Tony’s credit card, a first edition of the book. The auction was rough but you needed that book for Natasha.
Natasha stared at the book once, again jaw hanging open. She wiped her hands on her pants before handingly the book with utmost care. She flipped it over and ran her fingertips over the indented letters and gold illustration on the front.
“Y-you like it? I know you said you like Alice in Wonderland. It’s uh… actually a first edition copy. Tony was about ready to kill me when he saw me pay for the bid,”
You laughed nervously. She turned the book around again and then set it on the coffee table. She tackled you and pushed you back on the couch kissing all over your face. You yelped in surprise then grabbed her hips, catching her lips and kissing her roughly. She melted into the kiss but you pulled away.
“As much as I love this Natty, let’s open your last gift and eat some cake,”
You sat up and pulled her so she was in your lap. You placed a soft kiss to the back of her neck as she reached for the last gift. It was heavy but the assassin had no trouble lifting it.
“After that we can makeout in the fort I made. yeah?”
You wrapped your arms around her waist and pulled her close to you, rubbing circles on her thigh. She laughed and nodded, blushing profusely.
“I like that idea Y/N,”
She opened the box and pulled out the gift you put months of effort into. This time her reaction wasn’t as instantaneous. You helped her pull all the pieces out and set it on the coffee table. She looked at it slightly perplexed.
“I’m sorry… I’m not exactly sure what it is,”
She pouted and looked at you. You smiled and nodded knowing she wouldn’t. You set it out so she could see all the parts.
“Well… uh it’s a new suit. You always say that you don’t like how tight and revealing your other ones are so I kinda beefed this one up so it focuses on functionality,”
She nodded along as you explained. A look of understanding crossed her face as she pulled at the sleeves.
“ohhhhhhhh. That makes so much sense. I- Y/N what the fuck. I can’t express it enough. You are the best, you listened to me and used it to give me the best gifts i’ve ever gotten. You are the most thoughtful partner,”
You beamed. The feeling you knew she was struggling to express, it was exactly what you’d wanted her to feel. Loved, heard, appreciated, and cared for.
“I’m glad sunflower. That’s what I wanted. To make you feel as good as you deserve. D-do you mind if I tell you a bit about the features? I didn’t have time to test some of them so I will need to do that before you take it into combat,”
She nodded and slid off your lap to look at you. You patted her legs and squeezed then held at the sleeve first.
“Well of course it wouldn’t be a suit for the Black widow without gauntlets. These can change through three different modes for different levels and types of stuns also a laser if you need that for aiming,”
You flipped on the laser and pointed it at a pot then turned it back off.
“Also I made it so the suit can suction to your body but be limp to put it on. a lot easier to slip on ya know. And there is mobile but thick padding on all major points of contact for falling. Shoulders, hips, elbows, knees, the like.”
Natasha ran her hands over the surprisingly thin padding and smiled.
“Wow baby that’s… amazing,”
You nodded and picked up the bag attached to the back.
“And uh there’s a parachute built in as well as pockets up the legs, arms and boots so you don’t have to have the belts. They are sorta magnetic so you can like open them easily but when they are closed everything stays in. OH AND THE BOOTS,”
You started to ramble on about the energy absorbing boots you worked with Shuri on that would allow Nat to drop from double the height of a normal human with no damage to her knees or feet. Nat just stared at you hungirly.
“Hey baby, I seriously appreciate the gift. It’s honestly the best thing I've ever gotten. Why don’t we try it out tomorrow and you can show me EVERYTHING. For now we can… sit in the fort like you said,”
She had a cocky smile and you blushed at her antics. You nodded quickly, cutting off your rambling. Her hands found your waist and she pulled you off the couch and into the pillow fort you had built.
“I uh- got a movie for us to watch. Do you want to?”
She nodded and smiled. A look that very much meant “Yes. That's sweet, but I doubt we will be watching it.” You pulled her into your lap, setting your hands on her waist. She draped hers over your shoulders and rubbed light circles on the back of your neck. You leaned forward and trapped her lips in a kiss. Soft but full of passion.
The rest of that night was spent watching the movie and kissing. When you finally remembered the cake a slice had been taken out of it, with
“You were busy with Romanoff so I took what I was owed. The package has been moved, try getting me now little sibling.”
On a sticky note beside it. Natasha had laughed, unsure exactly what had happened but sure it was a story she would much enjoy hearing.
She had moaned over how good the cake was after laughing at how “Adorably” it was decorated.
“So Nat… did I make this birthday worth celebrating?”
She smiled wide and nodded.
“Yes Y/N, if every birthday was like this I would never want to stop celebrating.”
