bucky wraps an arm around sharon, presses a kiss to her forehead, and sharon grins, curling up by his side. they’re sitting on the couch, an old romcom playing on the tv, and, like he always does with sharon, bucky feels at peace.

feels like he’s home.

he doesn’t want to give that up, ever, wants to stay with sharon for as long as she’ll have him.

she’s his best friend, the love of his life.

“marry me?” he asks quietly, the words coming out before he can stop them.

sharon blinks, pauses, then gives him another, stunning smile. “’course, babe. as long as you get me a ring.”

he laughs. “i’ll put it on the shopping list.”

they were rare trips, just him and her, treasured escapes from his father’s grasp.

they’d take a picnic, and they would read or his mom would tell him about science or anything else that they wanted.

it was peaceful. idyllic. serene and perfect in a way that bruce knows he’s never going to see again.

decades after their last trip, he stands in the very same clearing where his mother had once laughed and loved and lived, and wonders how much he would give up to get her back.
