A multitude of owls, of meanings and opinions, neatly stacked one on top of the other, to form The Tower. Their collective wisdom is profound, and their collected eyes stare outwards, look inwards and fix you in their gaze. This is the moment of revelation, which will open the way to radical change. Sever yourself from ideals and ideas that are stifling you. Free yourself from false beliefs and overcome constraints – no matter what the consequences.

Butts & Conté

Over the last couple of summers, when it was nice and sunny outside, my friend Kathryn Durst and I have had the pleasure of organizing costume life drawing sessions in Kathryn’s backyard.

These events were a lot of fun. Many of our talented friends came to draw with us. We had snacks and music playing, and a costumed model doing short poses for us animation folk.

Usually in October it would already be too cold to draw outside, but we were lucky to be able to host our Halloween sessions at Clay and Paper theatre, as well as Darren Leu’s Creature Creating space.

We would like to thank everyone who came to our sessions, and everyone that contributed, as well as our talented models. Thank you!!

In the winter months, we usually stay inside, drink tea and focus on our work.

The Toronto Comic Arts Festival (TCAF) is a month away and that means it is time for the Doug Wright Awards nominees to be announced! Congratulations goes out to consummate Koyama Press cartoonists John Martz, whose book Burt’s Way Home  is nominated for Best Book, Jessica Campbell, whose book Hot or Not: 20th-Century Male Artists netted her a Spotlight Award (aka The Nipper) nomination, Nathan Jurevicius’ Birthmark is also highlighted in the Spotlight category, as is Steve Wolfhard’s collection Cat Rackham. Congrats to all of the nominees all of whom can be found right here!
