Thoughts on Sword/Shield so far
With the whole national dex thing, everyone needs to understand that they were going to hit the limit eventually. Jesus christ, we're about to hit 1,000 pokemon!!!! Not everyone is gonna be included!!! Its sad, yes, but necessary. You want the games storage to be used for amazing gameplay, not just for every pikachu clone or small bird or bug pokemon that's ever existed.
I'm still gonna get the game. I'm still looking forward to it, it looks beautiful and I'm excited for all the cool new pokemon it will introduce.
This is something the whole Pokémon community has to see and it doesn't matter on which side you are.
You're Missing The Point Of The National Dex Controversy In Pokémon Swor...
Weird pokemon thought:
So as I've thought about getting a living dex of every conceivable pokemon a thought has dawned on me.
Why is the pokedex split up into regional/national dex.
Not mechanically why but why are they given those names?
Splitting each game into a *region* suggests some kind of unity between them all, as if there was some kind of government overseeing kanto and johto and hoenn etc. Etc.
But in the games that couldn't be further from the truth. Kanto and johto are incredibly close to each other and are probably the closest to being treated like regions of one country (obviously because the first four gens are based on some japanese prefectures.)
So the governmental bodies in pokemon tends to be: a police force, a medical force (an nhs type of deal specifically for pokemon however) and the pokemon leagues (or equivalents in alola)
So kanto and johto share an elite four and champion, but otherwise have completely seperate gym leaders.
But add in the other gens and the seperation between each 'region' becomes bigger.
The police and nurses wear different uniforms, the gym leaders and elite four are completely different (professor kukui mentions wanting to set up an elite four for international clout) they act very much like different countries. With wildly different customs and reactions to national emergencies.
They even have different myths, sinnoh mythos vs kanto for example. Or alola's guardian pokemon compared to johto's.
I could go on but I'll need to do some more research and look at regional variation.
But i think the regional pokedex should be called the intranational dex (or just national dex) and the current national dex should be called the international dex.
Game freak why did u name them so??
