Jack Kakis escaped from the labor camp where he was imprisoned in German-occupied Greece and joined the Partisans in Athens. From there, Kakis joined the formidable National Liberation Front (EAM) where he commanded a machine gun regiment, providing cover for espionage and sabotage missions. One of his group's main accomplishments was preventing German trains traveling through Greece from reaching Rommel's troops in North Africa. After the liberation of Greece in 1944, Jack was awarded several medals for his service during WWII, including the medal for Bravery Under Duress.
