Hi guys I know i don't have a huge amount of followers but this is really important to me so i wanted to post about it. I've not seen anyone else talking about this.
An American company called Hartree Partners has just financed the Canadian company Blue Moon Metals for the opening of a mine in Repparfjord, Sápmi, Norway. If they go through with the mine, they will be releasing 30 million tons of toxic waste into the fjord. This will affect the native wildlife, including a protected wild salmon fjord, as well as many other species (animal and plant life) living in the area.
Arguably most importantly though, this mine is located on traditional Sami reindeer herding land. Local herders have NOT given consent, and neither has the Sami Parliament. This means that they are violating the UN's Declaration of the rights of Indigenous Peoples.
This mine has been in the works since before 2020, and it's been protested all the way, especially earlier this summer, after the deals between companies was finalised back in March (more links below if you'd like information on this).
What can you do?
Please sign this petition, and spread the word. You don't need a Norwegian address to sign it! Don't let this get swept under the rug. Norway is a small country, with an even smaller indigenous population. Likely, it would be easy to ignore this. But that doesn't mean this matters any less. PLEASE SIGN!!!

If you want to contribute in other ways, you can send letters to hartree asking them to pull out. Natur og Ungdom has instructions on how to do this in both Norwegian and English. The article is aimed at teenagers, but anyone can take part!

@prisonhannibal also made an excellent post on the arrest of Sami activists LEGALLY protesting an ILLEGAL power plant in Fosen, which is a whole other topic, but I still think is incredibly important to understanding how the government is currently trying to suppress Sami voices and Sami activism.
Don't let them brush this under the rug! Don't let this disappear!
