Meet Equinox, the Justice League's newest member. Created by Jeff Lemire, the character was inspired by trips to northern Ontario reserves and talking with local residents. His aim was to create a character not burdened by stereotypes, which unfortunately has been common with native superheroes in the past.

So I'm sure everyone's talking about Steph. I know, I was at the panel, anyway I went to talk to Tynion about Roy. Specifically about Roy's Navajo heritage. And omg he says he's got scenes written and of course events have pushed it back, but what he's said was very inspiring. I may never see it in panels, but knowing the writer cares is just making me so happy.

My thoughts on Rainmaker in The Movement

She's barely in the comic. She of course appears with the usual superhero fight misunderstanding, and the typical Native character fringe. Does anyone in real life wear fringe? I don't know anyone who wears fringe outside of Grass Dance Regalia. Her costume changes between one page and the next, no the fringe is still around, but her corset becomes some sort of front  panel once the fighting is done.

Sadly decompressed storytelling means not much happened this issue, or with this character, though we do get to see a hint of her queerness as she gives her number to another character. I do hope she shows up again, and in a better outfit, but until then there's just too little to pass judgement.

Why did noone tell me Rainmaker was in The Movement?

I need to know when Native superheroes show up. This is important to me.
