One of our adventures today was a stop over in Flagstaff to explore Walnut Canyon, where we got to see the remnants of native cliff dwelling of the Sinagua tribe. It was amazing to see just how large this settlement must have been, as only a portiom of the dwellings are thought to have been uncovered in this canyon. See if you can spot the dwelling spaces in some of these photos. It's incredible to imagine how humans formed settlements in this terrain. These ruins were far more intricate and complex, designed for a much larger community of people. The main structure had housing, store rooms, food preparationrooms, and even an indoor fireplace. The circular structure seen off to the side was a public gathering space. And though you probably can't see it well there was an additional smaller circular structure that acted as a ball court for athletic activities. And finally, there is a naturally occuring underground cavern of air that blows cool air directly to the surface that felt like air conditioning. It was seemingly important to the resident tribes but the significance is unknown.
