Catch and Release
This is an image of a Dream Catcher that hangs in my home. In Lakota Sioux Native American culture it represents the web of a person's life. The Lakota view it as symbol for life's destiny with good or bad ideas that get caught in the web and others that pass through the hole in its center and on into the world. What a wise and thought provoking metaphor for how each of us choose to live our life with the dreams we accept and create.
As I contemplate the meaning of the Dream Catcher I can't help but wonder about my own dreams, not that come from outside, but those I create inside myself. I think of the many hopes and dreams I choose to hold on to and ponder in my heart; both the good and the bad. I consider the ones I choose to release out into the world through my feelings, actions and prayers. I alone have the choice about which I catch and hold tightly to and which I freely release for others to catch, react to and interact with.
I wish to share and pass on one of my dreams with you dear reader. I dream that every person my life touches will begin to daily seek the wisdom and compassion to release only good dreams into the world, for there are far too many bad ones wandering the planet, for our fellow brothers and sisters to catch and share. May we all come to understand that it is our responsibility alone to take care with those thoughts and dreams we choose to share with others, good or bad.
We are all dream catchers at heart. The question we must honestly ask our self is what dreams, beliefs, habits, traits and prejudices do we choose to catch and hold on to and which are we consciously or subconsciously choosing to release to wander the world for others to catch?
Dreams begin within each of us whether good or bad. May we have the wisdom to discern and share the difference by becoming that difference this world of ours so desperately cries out for. We are all dream catchers and creators and it's a responsibility that none of us should take lightly. - MDD
