Catholics, Orthodox, Anglicans and Lutherans of tumblr! How do you change your home altar/prayer corner for Advent? Do you use a different image or icon than Christ, maybe one of Mary, etc.?
Reblog this post and add what art you currently have up in your prayer space… I need inspiration!
The Nativity Fast Begins!
Prepare, O Bethlehem, for Eden has been opened to all! Adorn yourself, O Ephratha, for the tree of life blossoms forth from the Virgin in the cave! Her womb is a spiritual paradise planted with the Divine Fruit: If we eat of it, we shall live forever and not die like Adam. Christ comes to restore the image which He made in the beginning! ~Troparion for the Forefeast of the Nativity of Christ
"Make ready, O Bethlehem, for Eden hath been opened.."
Today marks the start of the Nativity Fast for Orthodox Christians which will continue until December 24th. For all those participating (please do so only under guidance from your priest!) I wish you a blessed and spiritually nourishing Fast.
I would like to invite Orthodox and non-Orthodox Christians (including people of other faith backgrounds including agnosticism) to participate in this Prayer Challenge. Which is simply to pray this each evening (or as often as you can) for the duration of the fast.
If you have never prayed before, that's okay! You can just read these words out loud or in your head. You don't have to worry about doing anything special or feeling a certain way. Chances are, it will feel awkward and strange at first. But after a few times, you will get more comfortable with it.
For an extra little challenge set by me personally, you can always spend a few minutes in reflection after the prayer each evening. What stood out to you particularly with the prayer that time? Was it certain words? Was it certain themes? Did it connect with something you read in Scripture or another book that day? Just anything that comes to mind
Wishing all my followers a Blessed Nativity Fast. Whether you're fasting or not, I hope this time leading up to Christmas is full of anticipation and joy and spiritually nourishing for yourself and your loved ones.
