Here's a thought: Mari and Shauna run into eacheother during the hunt and get into a huge fight after Mari decides that Shauna Shipman—of all people—is not going to be the thing that kills her out here.

Anyways, after rendering Shauna borderline unconscious, Mari runs off and eventually bumps into Nat, who tells her all about the rescue plan and the call in the mountains, and they both stick together until rescue eventually finds everyone.

(bonus points if you add in Akilah (and maybe Travis) finding those two and hiding with them in the caves during the space between the hunt and actually getting rescued)

Pre crash natkilah headcannnons

: ̗̀➛HC 1: Akilah fell first. It started out as a fascination. She found Nat interesting and something about her drew her in. She knew it wasn’t like how she looked up to Tai, this was different. It took her a while to come to terms with her crush, and it happened slowly. Once she realized her feelings were more than just wanting to be Nat’s friend, she was very shy around her.

: ̗̀➛HC 2: Nat fell harder. Akilah and her started talking more often, and soon Nat found herself wanting to spend more time with her. She started ditching Kevyn and Travis to meet up with Akilah and her friends (she didn’t know why she put up with Mari, only that she was doing it for Akilah). One day her and Akilah were talking when she realized how much she meant to her. Unlike how it took Akilah a while to come to terms with her crush, it just took Nat that one moment, although she would be more in denial about her feelings.

: ̗̀➛HC 3: Oh these girls would be SO oblivious. You just know Akilah would be a blushing, shy mess and Nat would be trying to play it cool (but failing miserably of course).

: ̗̀➛HC 4: After Nat realized she liked Akilah she would become distant. Akilah thought it was because Nat didn’t like her, and she was stupid enough to let herself get close and develop a silly crush. Nat was just scared though, she didn’t want to mess their relationship up. Eventually, she worked up the courage to ask her to hang out.

: ̗̀➛HC 5: Tai would catch on quickly. She saw the way Akilah froze up around Nat. Tai didn’t think Nat had feelings for Akilah and because she knows how having an unrequited crush on a straight girl can be like at that age, she became extra protective.

: ̗̀➛HC 6: Nat would find excuses to be around Akilah, like walking her home after practice. Akilah decided to confess on their walk back to her house. She had said it so casually it caught Nat off guard. Akilah thought Nats silence was confirming her worse fears, until Nat stopped, bent down, and kissed her softly.

: ̗̀➛HC 7: They wouldn’t tell the whole team. Tai and Van were the first to know. Van was so excited, and Tai was happy for Akilah. Right after she took Nat aside and grilled her about treating Akilah right (which she knew she would), and make sure she doesn’t break her heart.

I haven’t blogged about natkilah in a while, so here’s how I think they would meet!

They would definitely bump into each other a few times in the hallway and Akilah would always notice Nat, but they never interacted. They would really talk for the first time at one of their practices. Coach paired them up for drills and they noticed they had more in common then they thought. After that Nat would pretend she wasn’t interested in the younger girl, and Akilah would pretend like that didn’t bother her.
