Because they disapprove of her, Eva has a slightly turbulent relationship with her sister Elesa, and a near non-existent relationship with her parents- her mother and father keep up with Eva’s goings on through contact with her sister. The only reason Eva has anything to do with any of them is because of constant nagging from Mama Richie and because Eva is trying to keep a good relationship with her nephew, Elesa’s son Nathaniel.
Eva starts bringing Jake to her sister’s house for moral support. After a couple of visits with Jake, Eva finally asks Elesa to let Nat call her Aunt Eva instead of Uncle Evan. Elesa caves, and Nat asks if he should call Jake uncle now too.
This sort of becomes a running joke when ever Jake and Eva visit, with the young boy asking when he’ll be able to call Jake uncle, even though he already does it. And even years later after Jake’s daughter Emma is born, Nat then starts asking if Eva caved and the title is finally completely true.
