I was thinking a lot about how their friendship probs changed thru the years, i feel like they were closest while Shuuichi was still in HS and things probs changed as Shinobu defected and Shuuichi started acting, they probs slowly stopped seeing each other as much and distance grew. Something (like a big break) probably happened soon after this, but I love the thought of Matoba slowly growing his hair (bittersweet since its him preparing to take over the clan, and its necessity not choice), Shuuichi figuring out wtf is gonna happen in his life, yet still both teasing each other (with an air of tension and judgement as their paths diverge.)

I love Matoba and Natori's first meeting more than any other intro/flashback episode in the series. The tension between them is borderline unbearable and awkward. Neither of them have had a peer their own age who knows anything about the exorcist world before. They clearly want to be friends, allies, or at least somehow get closer to one another but they just suuucccckk at communicating.
