#NCaseyKeyCustom One of four 11x11 x 122” poplar columns. This one was fabricated to conceal a 4x4 structural steel post. We started with kerf cuts in order to relieve the cupping in the solid 1x12 poplar stock (thanks @michaelaustinfinecarpentry for this tip), then assembled the three lock mitered sides with 1x ribs, pocket screwed in for easier assembly and rigidity. The two column faces that were in contact with the steel post had to get rabbeted down to 1/4” thickness (we used a dado stack on the table saw and the RO125 sander with 40 grit Granat to hog out the rabbet). Lastly, we put PL Premium where necessary on the steel post and placed the 4th side into position. The edges were lock mitered so it came together very well. The guys finished up the beamed ceiling in the library today and did a great job!. This room gets a fantastic quality of light in the afternoon. It’s my favorite space in the entire house. In order to install the beams on the right side, we had to remove the in-place wall cabinets and then reinstall them at the end of the day. We finished up this white oak ceiling today at the @christnerbros #NCaseyKeyCustom job site. We were supplied prefinished cerused solid white oak click-together flooring boards (finished oak which was then white washed by the painters before install). We snapped chalk lines to find center, carefully laid out the coursing from center, scribed in the starter course and than went to town. The two darker pieces you see are 12” and 24” long boards which we ran out of in the white wash. No worries as the painters will hit them to blend in. This past week we revisited this job site to install sliding panels into a frame that was missing parts from when we did the window and door package installation a few months ago.
