Background: Constellation investigated several destroyed star systems and found a massive space machine breaking up each planet in the solar system. They tried unsuccessfully to stop it, wrecking their ship in the process. Decker had the crew beam down to the surface of an habitable planet, staying behind the man the transporters himself. The Planet Killer attacked again, disabling the transporters,then the third planet was destroyed. The Enterprise found the hulk of the Constellation and rescued Decker, but while reviewing the ship’s logs Kirk, Scotty, and Lt. Washburn were stuck on the dead ship as Enterprise came under attack by the Planet Killer (dubbed the Doomsday Machine). After some unsuccessful attacks a deranged Decker stole a shuttle and ran it down the Planet Killer, causing a power drop. learning from that Kirk used the ship’s impulse engines to rig the Constellation to blow inside the Doomsday Machine’s throat. everyone was beamed off Constellation right before it blew, taking the Planet Killer with it.
