NCIS films at Point Mugu

Lt. Cmdr. Lee Fox 4:23 PM, Jun 5, 2015 In April, Fleet Logistics Support Squadron (VR) 55 and Navy Base Ventura County (NBVC), Point Mugu hosted the cast and crew of the CBS television show, “Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS),” for the final two episodes of season twelve.

VR-55 participated in the filming of the final scene of the episode titled “The Lost Boys.”

The scene portrayed the return of a fallen NCIS agent from a war zone. Along with one of their C-130s, VR-55 and NBVC provided a few Sailors to perform as extras, portraying the ceremonial detail that disembarked the remains of the fallen agent from the aircraft, color guard and senior leadership on the ground.

While the afternoon of filming was a fun change of pace, the participating Sailors also learned that while Navy life may not always seem as glamorous as a Hollywood set, the focus required to film a three minute scene over five hours is not unlike the challenges they face in their daily duties.

The Navy has supported “NCIS” since its inception 12 seasons ago, sharing a mutually beneficial relationship.

The “NCIS” production crew realized early on that when it comes to accurately depicting Sailors on television, nothing beats a real Sailor. The professional and disciplined demeanor of a U.S. Navy Sailor is naturally instilled over years of service and training, and is not easily duplicated through actor coaching. With the Navy’s production assistance, “NCIS” has been able to create a more realistic depiction of the Navy for its 22 million stateside viewers.
