sitting in the go-to cafe the lovers frequently visit, donghyuck was waiting for renjun to arrive as he tries not to eat the food in front of him. he just got out of the studio he works in near their apartment. he was a producer and singer in a local recording studio which he loves despite the pay being only sufficient for him and his boyfriend.
the bell chimes for the third time he has been there and looked up to see his boyfriend smiling at him, walking to his direction. renjun was wearing a beige coat over the gray button up and black pants and also wore his glasses instead of his lens making him look more handsome. donghyuck can't help but mesmerize at the beauty. renjun is a manager of some business, donghyuck doesn't really know his job but doesn't mind sonce he knew it wasn't shady. he also does art commisions which he's really good at. he's perfect, the kind of idealistic guy everyone wants, and donghyuck is lucky he gets to have that person.
once renjun got near to donghyuck, he pecked his lips before sitting on the empty seat beside donghyuck.
"you took so long, i was trying not to devour he plate," donghyuck complained as they started eating.
renjun took a bite of his food before speaking, "you could've eaten while waiting for me, you know."
"but i wanna eat with you," donghyuck says softly.
this got the older flustered, red cheeks and a glint in his eyes, "what's with you today? you're so cheesy."
"i just," donghyuck sighed, "miss you."
renjun looked at him weirdly but a smile spread out on his face. he was speechless for the younger's sudden words and actions.
"by the way," donghyuck gulped down what he chewed, "before i forget, we just reached our goal for the project and the ceo gave us a week break."
renjun smiled at that, "that's great! i also have something to tell you."
donghyuck wasn't expecting to hear that from renjun. he doesn't know why but he suddenly became nervous.
"what do you think about chinese food?"
this got donghyuck confused, "i think they're good," he said but it came out as a question, "why'd you ask?"
"i was thinking maybe we could get some chinese on your break," renjun said.
"on my break? you mean you're craving for some of mrs. ku's cooking?" donghyuck was still confused at where his boyfriend's going. mrs. ku was the owner of a chinese restaurant the couple loves going to the point mrs. ku herself treats them like his children and gives them discount sometimes.
renjun chuckled at his oblivious partner, "more than that. my best friend is getting married next week and i was also thinking maybe it is the time to meet my family."
the younger one went silent, trying to process everything, "we're going to china?"
renjun smiled, "yep," when donghyuck didn't reply, he continued, "it'll only be for a week, though... so, will you go with me?"
meeting his family means a lot to donghyuck. it means he gets to meet the lovely dads who made renjun a man he is today, he'd like to meet his best friend who he speaks fondly off--it was a lot to take in for him. donghyuck grew up with a single mother who passed away when he was eight years old and has been with his friend's family who gladly took him in. this has to be one of the biggest decisions he'll make because it's another milestone in his life and his relationship.
"yangyang has been trying to get me there too," donghyuck mumbles softly, remembering his old college friend.
"see! even the universe wants you there. come, it'll be for a while."
"fine," donghyuck smiled, can't help not giving in to his boyfriend's pleas.
"yes!" renjun smiled widely, "for that, i will order a dessert."
not a short while after renjun ordered, there was a call for him from one of his father. he stood up and told donghyuck he will take the call.
renjun went to a secluded corner of the restaurant and answered the call, "hello, dad? what's wrong?"
"i heard you're coming home for lucas' wedding, with a date."
renjun paused for a while, "we were literally just talking about that, why?"
he looked around and saw guys who were stealing glances from him, all renjun could do was sigh.
"well, your room is ready. for you. and i'm having the house redone so it's not ready for guests yet."
renjun doesn't know why his dad is being like this but he knows it'll go away once he meets his lovely boyfriend, "we'll be staying in a hotel so don't worry."
he can hear the other line sigh, "fine, as long as i can see my son, it'll be okay."
renjun smiled, he missed his parents having not to see them for over two years since he's been busy in korea. and there's just one thing holding him back from going home, "okay, dad, take care, the both of you."
"you too, be safe always, okay?"
it was the day before the flight when donghyuck invited mark, his best friend and brother basically, for a hangout. they were currently buying new outfits for donghyuck as mark commented, 'you're in dire in need of new clothes' to which the younger found rather insulting as renjun would take him even he was wearing his everyday sweats and white t-shirt.
"i mean, his dads can't not like me right?" donghyuck exasperated to mark who only went silent. he saw a glimpse of the older's reaction, "what was that? i saw that!"
mark just walked away and continued finding something for his best friend to wear, "it's just... they could have different views on you, you know. every person has different views."
"it's renjun's family, he accepted me for who i am and so will they," donghyuck said but he found himself trying to convince that they'll like him.
"i just wanna say that, well, renjun is a very open minded person and so could his family be but let's just play safe and try to look, humane."
donghyuck scoffs, he was about to retort back but he remembered he once wore a dinosaur onesie to work as a dare for 24 hours and that was probably the first time renjun and him almost broke up. luckily, it didn't. it took a lot of time and effort to let the shorter one calm.
"it's quite hard for me, i guess," donghyuck opened up, "i no nothing besides he has two fathers and his cousins are mostly gay."
"maybe his family is poor and has to send them money every month. most good chinese sons always do that," mark replied.
renjun always changes the subject if he asks about his family. to think his nosy personality would force renjun but, no, he respects him but he can't help feel upset that his boyfriend wouldn't open up about it. they've been together for two years yet, he still doesn't know.
he hopes meeting his family will go well. that's the last thing he wants to be ruined.
