Inspired by a little falconid friend I saw on a ceremonial vase exhibited in a museum I went to this weekend (because that's where they're keeping our sacred kin these days)

Hot take, however, I strongly believe demanding people's personal information online to "verify" they're really native is stupid. You don't get some strangers family tree on the internet. People don't wave the right to privacy the moment they mention off handedly something personal to them. If they haven't already told you all this information then it's information you don't need to know.
Some questions in some contexts make sense, but too many people genuinely want people to doxx themselves to Prove Themselves Worthy of some asshole online's approval, and I don't think it's okay. I want to stop seeing that.

shoutout out to the indigenous folks who don't cut their hair for spiritual & cultural reasons;
even if it's overstimulating, even if the troubles of life seem to weigh down your hair, even if you want different hairstyles, even if you're struggling to unlearn Western beauty ideals, even when it's hard, even when everyone else around you is cutting their hair, even when other indigenous people don't understand why or chastise you for practicing, even when your family doesn't follow the practice, even when your hair was forced to get cut, even when it's hot out, even when it's hard to afford maintaining
whats the strat for attracting ndn tumblr rn... I feel like I just don't get any traction. #Indigenous is full of a lot of weird shit, #ndn has a tons of porn bots, and #ndnblr is dead. I guess the strat is networking
Any Métis out there got recommendations for books on southern michif? Just looking for more information and resources I can use to study on my own time. Maarsii!
Happy Mother's Day to all the indigenous mothers!!! Happy Mother's Day to Mother Earth 🌎 Happy Mother's Day to all the Grandmothers, Aunties, Nieces, and Cousins! Happy Mother's Day to the women from our stories and legends
I would also like to add for writers who want to write indigenous characters- being accurate is important, and when it comes to closed practice things 1) just don't do it unless you are from that tribe and have explicit permission, and 2) you can also make the characters accurate to the best of your knowledge and put a disclaimer on each chapter/ep/ect that you are not a member of the tribe, that your content may not be 100% accurate as you want to respect tribe's privacy and attempts at cultural preservation, and that your content does not represent the tribe or it's members and is not approved by them.
Like directors used to do this all the time I feel like where they explicitly said that the movie was a work of fiction based on real people or events and that they have done their best to be accurate. Then some of them even add websites or whatever sources to direct people to. We need to bring that back!!! And stop filling indigenous tags with your questions and fandom shit!!! Those are places for indigenous folks to connect not for you to colonize and center yourself!!!
