the weightlifting thing is as surprising as it is cool :D Good luck with that!
Thank you! It would be even more surprising if you actually saw what I looked like -- I’m really tiny, LMAO. As in, I tend to elicit the “awww, she’s so cute!” response rather than the “holy shit she could break my nose” response. I guess this is why I sometimes get ID’d at bars/nightclubs even though I’m 35 LOL
But yeah, it’s surprisingly addictive??? Like, I wasn’t expecting that 9 months ago, when I first started hiring a personal trainer -- and I didn’t even want to lift weights, I just went along with it for fanfic research -- and I certainly didn’t expect to still be here and actually taking it seriously! (Especially after all those times I ended up in tears at the gym, haha, because it was so tough at first. And I’m not exactly someone who’s new to exercise, given that I was a runner and martial artist in my teens and 20s -- and yet it was still so fucking hard!)
But there’s something about seeing and feeling yourself get stronger and able to lift heavier weights -- to do more things that I couldn’t physically do before -- as well as seeing the muscle definition/tone on your body, that sort of makes you want to do it more? At least in my case, anyway.
Also, huge bonus for me, as a lifelong severe insomniac who doesn’t respond to medication or therapy -- it helps me actually sleep, which in turn helps me manage depression and anxiety and all those other fun mental disorders I’ve been diagnosed with and been trying to manage for decades.
So, yeah, in short, you’re not the only person who’s surprised that I lift -- I’m surprised too, definitely! Especially given how much I hated it at first! XD
