What a beautiful night..
The pianist Russell Sherman distilled a lifetime of insights and a predilection for spontaneity and engagement in the moment in a Jordan Hall recital.
Some pianists show us how to play, or, more rarely, how to listen. Russell Sherman’s recitals in recent years do more — they model a way of living in the presence of art.

Just Hugh Wolff and John Heiss talking about Stravinsky’s Firebird. No big deal.

On June 21, 2015, the world lost a great artist and visionary leader, one who will be sorely missed. Gunther Schuller was my lifelong mentor and teacher, and one of my best friends. He was a performer, composer, conductor, writer, publisher, improviser, educator, administrator and avid listener and concertgoer. Gunther Schuller was truly the compleat musician.

While this program is presented as part of the German-titled "Liederabend" series, this program will offer an evening of French mélodies—a tribute to John Moriarty and his special association with this repertoire. Moriarty retired from NEC last spring. He is a man of many talents and literally "wrote the book" on singing in French; Moriarty's Diction (1975, rev. 2008) is still a standard reference work for singers.
If you are unable to attend but would like to join in the celebration, we encourage you to send us your favorite "Moriarty Memories" - his influence on your musicianship, how his teachings have resonated with you, memorable performances...we look forward to hearing from you and sharing your words!
Hooray! Brand new video all about our awesome double bass program!
“She’s an incredible musician. She’s really accomplished and, let’s not forget, one of the best vocal teachers. [New England Conservatory] is churning out some of the great singers. And she’s incredibly sweet. This is beautiful. “ - Theo Bleckmann on Dominique Eade
