I'm now realizing the reason I don't like certain black culture food is because of the way my mother cooked them.

Neck bones and oxtails.

No browning, no gravy, no veggies.

Seasoning in the water and boiling till cooked, and that's it. Wet gray meat.

It's not even wet grayness that turned me off to it. it's the smell of wet gray meat. It stinks. Its like this wet rotten earth

Fun fact:

Babies don't have neck bones! They actually steal the neck bones from older people which is why older people start to hunch as time goes one. The transfer of neck bones happens when older people's instinct to lean in really close to babies occurs, getting them within neck-bone stealing range. The infant will then reach into the elder's mouth and into their throat where they can easily access the neck bones. This is an extremely traumatic process for both elder and infant and therefore will be forgotten within a matter of minutes.
