Brew #11: Beavertown Neck Oil Session IPA
Pour: Golden yellow, cloudy with a good white froth that peters down to a sliver.
Taste: Big lemon fresh citrus hit washing around into a pine and spiced bite. Finishes slightly dry and hoppy. A really fresh beer, lovely chilled and easy drinking IPA.
Does neck oil translate to nectar? Methinks it does. In the midst of supping the first can my dad arrived to the door with a delivery of mackerel fresh caught from the rocks in Dunmore. This was perfect, supper with a sup! I threw two of the fish, gutted and cleaned, straight onto the pan with nothing bar a little oil. The sea flavours of the fish complimented the lemony hit of the beer. That hoppy citrus smack lifted the freshness of the mackerel and neutralized its natural oiliness on the palate. A perfectly timed visit from the old man and a lovely combination of tastes.
